May 28, 2007 · By Greg Farries

I’m going to be at the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan for the rest of the week. Congress is the largest annual academic gathering in Canada and I’ll be attending the Canadian Political Science Association part of the conference.

If you’re planning on attending, drop me an email me [greg - at - mediablitz.ca](or contact me here) and maybe we can discuss the state of the blogosphere over a few drinks

Top Posts from ThePolitic in April 2007

May 3, 2007 · By Greg Farries

Each month I highlight the most popular weblog posts from the previous month. Well, it’s that time of the month again, and here is the top posts from April 2007.

Post popularity is determined by ranking the total pageviews (for that particular month) of each of the posts; as determined by Google Analytics. There was a tie for seventh place, so this month there are eleven top posts.

As you can see from the list below, April was a controversial month, with many of the top ten postings getting a great deal of comments:

  1. Al Sharpton’s Daughter is not a Nappy-Headed Ho
  2. SSM: Is Incest Next?
  3. Three Cheers for Racial Apartheid in Canada
  4. Al Gore vs George W Bush - Whose House is Greener?
  5. Liberal Party Activists Censoring YouTube Videos Critical of Stephane Dion
  6. Gay Marriage: Hazardous to your Health
  7. Elizabeth May: Meltdown
  8. Rent Control in Alberta?
  9. Ben Mulroney to run for CPC in Papineau
  10. Stephane Dion on Bert Brown: I could have made a better choice than Albertans did

Blog Fanboy Reports

April 18, 2007 · By Shane Edwards

Two of my favorite bloggers are back on the job after lengthy hiatuses (hiatii?).

Mike Brock (of Brock: On the Attack!) was one of the first political bloggers who really caught my attention. He took a year or so off (after about a year of fading), and now seems to be back at full strength. Good on ya!

Wonder Woman used to blog at North American Patriot, then mysteriously vanished. 11 months later she kicked up her heels again at Lasso of Truth. Hints revealed on her new blog may have something to do with some kind of romance that has since flourished, but I am sure she will/has reveal(ed) what she was up to at some other point. Great to have you back and bouncy!

Blog fanboy out.

Blogger’s Code of Conduct? Ignorance Here to Stay

April 11, 2007 · By Greg Farries

Tim O’Reilly is drafting a Blogger’s Code of Conduct and has released the first draft of the code. I’m highly skeptical that it will have any positive affect on the rather “rough around the edges” blogosphere.

We celebrate the blogosphere because it embraces frank and open conversation. But frankness does not have to mean lack of civility. We present this Blogger Code of Conduct in hopes that it helps create a culture that encourages both personal expression and constructive conversation. [via: Werner Patels]

Looking at the comments of the many commentators on ThePolitic, civility isn’t the word the comes to mind.

Update: Make sure to share your opinion in the comments.

“”Hello Facebook” - More Dion Antics

February 28, 2007 · By Matthew

Stephane Dion has a new video up on the Liberal website that should amuse the masses. Does anyone over in the OLO not edit these things, or are they meant to be this zanny?!

Update: Transcript for the video…

Hello Facebook, thank you so much to all of you to participate in it. I’m very impressed and very encouraged… it is a great support I am receiving and let me tell you, it will motivate me a lot to win the next election to offer Canadians in deed what we believe in… that means a more prosperous Canada, and more just Canada, and a more sustainable Canada.

We’ll succeed altogether.
