Years Later, DND is Concerned About Torture

Sure, it’s a little late, but General Walt Natynczyk wants to know what happened to the report on the torture by Afghan personnel of a detainee we handed over to them (and whom our soldiers then rescued from his torturers). From CTV.ca:
The Canadian military has ordered a formal investigation into how a critical report on the beating of an Afghan prisoner remained buried at National Defence headquarters.
In June 2006 soldiers captured a suspected Taliban fighter and handed him over to local police, who then beat him to the point where the Canadians had to intervene.
A report on the incident, which undermines Conservative government claims that no prisoners handed over to Afghans faced abuse, was apparently uncovered only in December.
Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Walt Natynczyk ordered an investigation, which is headed by Rear-Admiral Paul Maddison, commander of Joint Task Force Atlantic.
Natynczyk’s deputy, Vice-Admiral Denis Rouleau, says the probe will look at the incident itself, why soldiers took the actions they did and how it was reported.
The report of the investigation is due March 1 and is to be made public shortly after.
Diplomat Richard Colvin testified before a special House of Commons committee in November that he repeatedly warned federal officials in 2006 and 2007 that prisoners faced the possibility of torture in Afghan jails.
This is good news, a little late, but good news nonetheless. Will this help end the contention that no one was tortured, or that the torture was nothing more than just being beaten by a shoe.
I have more thoughts on the matter here, but I’d like to ask why it’s so controversial to suggest that we shouldn’t be complicit in torture when, apparently, our troops on the ground think we shouldn’t be involved in torture?

This is much like the Maher arar scam where he himself back in 2003 told the Media (CBC) that he was denied entry to the USA by himself at JFK Airport and then it took 2 weeks before the USA found a Nation to give him a return flight since Tunisia refused to let him back in for fear of an Asylum Claim by his Family that fled Canada earlier.
Maher Arar was given a Private Jet and told the CBC he was fed well and allowed to walk around the plane uncuffed, the USA paid for his Plane ride to JORDAN to meet his wife and kids and fly directly back to Canada.
But she wasn’t there to meet him, instead it was Kidnappers that he said took him by car to be questioned and tortured over 2 weeks, THEN he was returned to his Homeland of Syria as a Draft-Dodger to face a Military Court.
Suddenly the NDP and Arar’s wife change the story to be that the USA nabbed Arar as an Alleged Terrorist in N.Y. and sent him to Syria to be Tortured.
The NDP didn’t give a damn during the 2-weeks in Jordan where Arar said he was tortured and then driven to Syria.
But once Alexa McDonough and Jack Layton saw the Arab/Muslim vote in Ottawa , they blamed Canada for what the USA did and then shifted the Torture from Jordan to Syria so Alexa could claim that Canada was Complicit in Arar’s False Confessions about terrorism ties.
Check out Arar’s own website because he posted his 2003 Lawsuit against Jordan which was tossed out by a Judge, it’s no surprise that in January of 2004 Arar’s Lawyers then came after us Taxpayers with a $400 Million dollar lawsuit and later settled for $10.5 Million plus Legal costs for Arar’s team of Lawyer supplied by CAIR. The same CAIR now tied to Hamas and Terrorism funding since at least 5 CAIR members are now in Jail or Prison as part of a Bogus Islamic Childrens Charity that funnelled money to Hamas.
The NDP also wants Omar Khadr back in canada since nobody actually saw him murder the US Medic , but we now have a Canadian Soldier changed with Murder because he shot a Terrorist in Civilian clothes as a Spy…but nobody actually saw him shot the Spy/Pow.
The MSM hates Gitmo and the USA, BUT, they love the Private Health care in the USA and the Vacations in Cuba while Cubans stave to death and feed from Gitmo garbage heaps.
Truely as strange canada from the one I was born into over 40 years ago.
