Despots at Copenhagen
December 17, 2009 · By Mark Peters
When blogging, there are times when you wonder if an analogy or illustration may be over the top or so far out that it will result in a barrage of legitimate criticism and, ultimately, a retraction or correction.
Then there are times when comparisons seem downright prescient.
Over in Copenhagen, we have Robert Mugabe, perhaps the most brutal and corrupt despot in Africa, whose life’s work has been to destroy the once-prosperous country of Zimbabwe, lecturing the West on the “hypocrisy” of its position on climate change. [...]
We have the government of China, which won’t allow its citizens free access to the Internet, complaining that the climate summit is “not transparent.”
We have Hugo Chavez, who took time off from shutting down Venezuela’s radio stations to fly to Denmark, complaining about western “dictatorship.” (If anyone back in Venezuela disagrees, he’ll toss them in jail).
–National Post, an absolutely smokin’ post by Kelly McParland.
It bears repeating that this is the morally inverted world of environmentalism.
Update: Pass me the caviar and vodka, Sergei.

Unfortunately something rotten is about to happen in the state of Demark where our so-called “world leaders” are expected to acquiesce to a tax escalating and wealth transferring scam. A Canadian PM more apprehensive pursuant to the economy and welfare of Canadians than he is about his own prospects would enthusiastically and ardently oppose any form of the fraud known as “Cap, Tax, & Transfer” which will devastate the Canadian economy, transfer billions of our tax dollars to corrupt socialistic/communist countries, slaughter tens of thousands of our jobs, and diminish our standard of living
Now that communism has been invalidated, “Climatism” is the new “ism” adopted by the extremists as their vehicle to increase taxes and transfer wealth just as Trudeau’s National Energy Program was intended. The inconvenient truth is that the job slaughtering “Cap, Tax & Transfer” scheme that left-plunging Harper and Prentice are about to inflict us is a stealth strategy for enormous, disingenuous long-term, structural tax increases. “Cap, Tax & Transfer” will evolve around an economic Ponzi scheme that includes an enormous new source of tax revenue to the Canadian government to allow it to continue its current expansion into the private sector, will transfer billions of our tax dollars, will demolish tens of thousands of high paying manufacturing and service jobs, result in the transfer of political power to the emerging global governance, will be a devastating disasters for our children’s standard of living, and a overwhelming transfer of wealth starting with the Climate Change Fund (CCF) which is being established to increase the reach of global governance and transfer at least $10 billion annually to the nations (many corrupt, some communist) of the world who repudiate creating their own wealth. However, these countries are not content with transfers of only $10 billion annually; these greedy, commonly corrupted/socialistic leaders are demanding hundreds of billions of dollars transferred each and every year. On top of that, if you can believe it, they don’t want the donor countries to have much say on how the money is spent (wasted). Our PM must stay far, far away from any contributions to this fraud fund which will finance the retirement funds for thousands of corrupt, socialistic, largely unelected leaders. Surely we all remember the last time that the UN was given responsibility and how they managed to screw-up the corrupt “Food for Oil” fund.
Countries that participate in this wealth transferring and tax increasing scam will discover that their government deeds will result in a massive increase in taxes plus the cost of goods and services such as gasoline, electricity, and most industrial produced products. The increase in the price of Canadian goods would make them less competitive in world markets. Canadian producers will suffer in export markets and domestically in competition with goods imported from countries that do not impose high implicit tax on CO2 emissions. The results of course will be massive manufacturing and service industry job losses leading to a much lower standard of living for us and especially our children…
The latest scientific evidence clearly illustrates that the climate has not changed in the last eleven years, and that the so-called “climate change” is a socialistic hoax to transfer wealth. Therefore, at this time our PM must not annihilate the Canadian economy just to please the left-wing extremists who insist on higher taxes and wealth transfers. British climate expert Anthony Cary reports that “climate science is in its infancy….only fools or rogues pretend to be sure of what is going on…Our climate models are barely predictive”. Rational people would think that the first step must include legitimate research and informed discussions pursuant to the current climate change paradigms rather than relying on erroneous computer models based on left-bias assumptions and manipulated data by some rogue “scientists”. These scientists are competing in a culture of exaggeration for the finite number of government research dollars by fabricating gloom and doom fantasies. The deliberations must include more than incontrovertibly paying attention to the biased press and environmental NGOs, each of which have their far-left agendas plus incentives to increase their influence and earnings or government grants. Step two would mandate the private sector, including the investment community possibly with tax incentives, to research, develop, produce, and implement technology necessary, such as carbon capture and sequestration, to resolve any climate problems that might be scientifically and legitimately confirmed to be acute; by reducing the carbon intensity per unity of production.
It is becoming increasing transparent that the so-called “climate change” panic is nothing more than a deception by far-left wealth redistributing advocates. Unfortunately Canada does not have a small-c fiscal conservative PM, nor are small-c conservatives represented in the Conservative Party or the Canadian Parliament, so left- plummeting Harper will likely effusively partake in this wealth transferring swindle which will begin slaughtering the Canadian economy. It is important that, if our left-plunging PM is susceptible enough to fall for this con, he at least include existing development aid.
Machiavelli,
Now you are copying your own posts…which were previously copied from the Ottawa citizen’s commentary.
Anthony Cary is still just an ambassador, not a climate expert.
Do you really have to copy paste this nonsense every time you see the word Copenhagen? Actually, maybe you are simply not a person at all and simply some sort of automated script that pastes this text every time certain keywords are found in a blog post (Copenhagen, climate change). This practice discourages honest discourse.
With regards to the actual article, yeah, I agree that it’s annoying to have to sit there and listen to Hugo Chavez on any subject and it’s unfortunate that you have to.
But… Venezuela is a major player in the oil market and he’ll do anything he can to make sure that any changes imposed on say Alberta, will not impact his refining operations.
It’s also undeniable that China, who pollute like it’s going out of style, also have huge stakes in these talks.
Ultimately, because so much money is involved, there will be NO meaningful agreement at Copenhagen. The only time change will come about will be when causal relationships are confirmed and that the physical impact will be undeniable. Until then, there’s lots of money to be made.
The disturbing thing is, despots like Hugo Chavez not only get a podium upon which they can spew their rhetoric filled lies, but when they do speak they get standing ovations from environmentalists and other global warming cranks.
This is a huge embarrassment for anyone and everyone involved in the global warming debate and specifically this conference.
Thugs like Chavez should be criticized, marginalized and then ignored. The response he was given in Copenhagen clearly shows that there is very little (if any) rational thought being exercised.
Precisely, Greg. The clear message is that Copenhagen is fundamentally about politics, specifically Leftist politics aiming to use the state to bully people, organizations and governments into compliance with enviro-fascist ideals.
Chavez and Mugabe receive adulation and ovation while Canada and the Prime Minister are ridiculed and scorned. It tells me all I need to know.
Sucks to adulation. This is not about ego or popularity.
The point of these talks is to come to an agreement.
When this conference is over, and no agreement is made, these “leftists” will have nothing to show for their adulation.
Chavez should be marginalized on almost every issue but if we’re talking about green house gas emissions, he definitely becomes relevant.
If he isn’t at the table, then why would lesser polluting countries bother making any concessions?
Ultimately, these talks will be regarded as a huge failure and Canada’s role in this failure will embarrassing for some, but not all.
Politically, this could end up being the rallying cry the Liberals have been waiting for. Instead of introducing a carbon tax, bemoan the fact that Canada’s role and reputation in the world has been damaged. That would resonate with many swing voters and would only be rejected by right wing lifers.
Too bad Iggy is too much of a bumbler to articulate it.
Bravo RD on reminding Machiavelli that Anthony Cary is not a scientist. He is just the representative of a foreign country with its own agenda. British high commissioners are known for their gossip network (do a search of what British diplomats have said about Canadian artists, politicians and people) and not their scientific prowess. Funny how they don’t correct the record about Cary being a “climate expert.”
Well, I don’t think they are bound to correct the record in the comment section. I’m sure if it were in the article itself, they’d immediately correct it since it would be their work.
To the defense of the politic, they have made an attempt to contact Mac with regards to his dubious post.
Even if most of the contributors to this site don’t agree with the intent of Copenhagen, I get the impression they would like to win the argument on the merit of honest facts, and original thought.
As far as I’m concerned, a comment from Machiavelli has zero merit. I’m not even convinced he’s a person anymore.
It would be so easy to write a script to troll around the internet posting prepared messages in the comment section of any article that returns a few specific keywords. Add to the fact that he’s been contacted by the site administrators and at least to my limited knowledge has not responded back.
He’s the equivalent of a Sarah Palin robocall.
