Loblaws’ Maple Leaf Gardens subsidy

Loblaws gets a subsidy for re-vitalizing their Maple Leaf Gardens from the federal government. Wow. I could not think of any poor business that was more deserving of a subsidy than the largest food retailer in the country.

    Agreed.
Without the subsidy, maple leaf gardens would be left to rot in the ground. I don’t see a problem with that.

Geez, I thought the Gardens had been rotting since 1967.

Seriously, what’s the place good for? If they were proposing to remake it into luxury condos or something, fine, but why should the feds get involved with that? If Loblaws saw fit to buy the white elephant (at a discounted price, no doubt) they should have to live with the consequence of paying property taxes on a useless but protected piece of junk occupying prime real estate. Why the hell should I pay to keep that scenario going? Stupid stimulus. And stupid Keynes for making it sound plausible.

Got something to say? (Read the rules first)
