Olympic Logo Flap

October 2, 2009 · By

Hey so the opposition are claiming that the new Canadian Olympic logo looks a little too much like the Conservative Party logo.

Which is patently ridiculous because it is obvious where the logo is derivative of, if one has any knowledge of Canadian military history.

Check this out:

It is the logo of the Royal Canadian Air Force until 1965.  Funny thing: I know this and I wasn’t even born until ’74.

I just want to say I am unsurprised that nobody in the present opposition has the education to be aware of this, and hence is completely deserving of mockery on the level of this:

I e-mailed Minister Lunn the very same logo yesterday right after I read about headless Hedy’s accusations.

    This is pure clap trap.
I will not try to dispute the fact that the logos are similar. Why on earth would you need to go back 45 years to find the true inspiration of the logo when it is equally similar to the current Conservative logo?

Line up the 3 logos together.
All 3 have the maple leaf. The fact that you say it is OBVIOUS that the inspiration comes from one logo over the other is either ridiculous or dishonest. All 3 look alike.

    Something else bothers me here.

Is that really the best logo they could come up with??? No doubt this cost tax payer money somehow…

Dude are you serious? The Conservative C only shares the same general shape. By strange coincidence the first letter of our nation is not “L” but “C”. Sorry about that.

In contrast, the Air Force logo shares the same proportions, colours, design, everything – with the exception of a “bite” out of it to make the C instead of a circle.

I can’t even believe I am responding to this.

Agreed – that is one awful logo.

Seriously Hedy, I’m just not really seeing what you Liberals see – but then again I didn’t hallucinate crosses burning on the lawns in Prince George, nor could I pick out the bare breast or nipple in the ice cube on the Pepsi machine advert……….but, hey on second glance I must admit I did get a tingly feeling to leap up and get some beer and popcorn. Whoa.

    Shane, that was pretty shameless.
They un-italicized the conservative party logo and yet you see no resemblance. Proving that the logo also resembles the air force logo does not disprove that it resembles the party logo.

Either you’re being dishonest or you’re blind.

RD, who do you think I am? A pseudonym for some CPC crony? Sorry, no. Just an ordinary guy without a paranoia streak a mile wide.

I’d lay off the ganja if I were you. It makes you both paranoid and delusional.

I’m clearly a party guy. I don’t make any secret of that. However when I first looked at that logo, the first thing I thought of was that it looked an awful lot like the RACF symbol. Subliminally I was a little disturbed at a connection between the military and the sporting event, but did I even think of the CPC logo?

    Nope.

I’m with Greg and others when I say that it’s a pretty damn ugly logo for an Olympic National Team, but then it hardly matters to me since I generally ignore sports anyway. Well, except for one. Politics is my fav bloodsport.

    Shane, all,
    I don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t do drugs, ever.
I simply saw a C, with a maple leaf in it, then the exact same C with a maple leaf in it slanted to the right (fitting no?)
To deny a resemblance between the two just because it also resembles another logo is as logical as saying frozen yogurt is not cold like ice cream because it is actually cold like snow.

Oh! Now I get it! It’s the old Straw Man! I can’t believe I fell for that!

You’re trying to make it look like I said there is NO resemblance between the CPC logo and the olympic logo. That isn’t at all what I said, but that is what you’re wanting to attack me for.

Ok, carry on with your straw man argument.

  11. RD on October 15th, 2009 12:05 pm [#]

Usually, when a person uses the straw man defense, they actually know what a straw man is. In this case, nobody had to paint you into a corner, your own words do it for you.

“Hey so the opposition are claiming that the new Canadian Olympic logo looks a little too much like the Conservative Party logo.
    Which is patently ridiculous…”

Shane, I guess you’re right. You didn’t say there is NO resemblance between the CPC logo and the olympic logo, you simply said that it was “patently ridiculous” to think that there was.

I don’t particularly even care about the ghastly logo.
What did get my attention was blatant dishonesty on your part by indicating that observing similarities between 2 large C’s, with maple leafs positioned in the center of them would be “patently ridiculous”.

RD – how do you keep your sanity if you follow politics and don’t ever drink or use drugs? My head might explode without a cocktail every now and then.

Got something to say? (Read the rules first)
