Bishop Raymond Lahey should be set free…

October 1, 2009 · By

As a fellow Catholic and a very forgiving man myself, I must say that Bishop Raymond Lahey should be set free —

— in the middle of Antigonish, Nova Scotia beside a bucket of tar and a heap of feathers, mind you.

This is weird:

Ottawa police said they don’t know where Lahey is either, though they have been in contact with him.

As being born and raised just outside Antigonish I know first hand the power and influence of the Catholic Church. Bad men have ruined a good institution. You have to wonder who knew before the charges were laid! Corruption can only happen when your superiors are involved. With so many priest allowed to do such nasty things it unfortunately makes sense that their superiors were in on it!

Hell 10, 15 years ago when Mount Cashal broke the Bishop for Antigonish said it was the boys fault and they invited the advances!

What is it about the priesthood, that it attracts more than its fair share of pedophiles?

Considering some of the high positions of those accused and those convicted, many have been corrupting lives for a very long time.

As a fellow Catholic and a very forgiving man myself, this man must be in jail and forever. As Catholics you are, you should read what says Jesuschrist about the children violence…

In March 1985 he was awarded the title of Prelate of Honour by His Holiness Pope John Paul II. – for all this !!!

Me thinks the Catholic church is sooooo over.
Wise up people…. it is run by total corruption, has mounds of money while people starve outside the gates of vatican city.
The only reason the settlements occurred was because of public pressure, NOT sincerity. Just goes to show once again that people will follow anything….

Better yet , castrate him. If he then doesn’t eat his own balls he’s already had his last meal . Nothing is too bad for this bastard & the rest of his ilk!

Better yet do the same thing to raccoon eyes in the vatican!

Umm, okay. Sorry Charles, but I generally enjoy your skepticism of state power. This view that we should tar and feather someone who is presently presumed innocent is surprising from you, to say the least.

Public revulsion towards these crimes gives the police an enormous amount of lee-way in the ways that they conduct their investigations. Legal protections are therefore particularly important. But this doesn’t occur to citizens with nooses, who do nothing other than add to the power of the coercive arm of the state.

As far as I am concerned, the more freedom we all enjoy — including the freedom of being subject to the wrath of pitch-fork wielding, noose swinging, tar and feathering angry masses — the less likely evil people would attempt their to commit evil actions.

As a fellow Catholic, it saddens me to see how comment after comments emphasizes the “Catholic church” as the monster, whereas it was the individual who committed the henious crime. There are plenty of good Catholics in this world. Look at the evil individual and his poisoned mind…he will get it.

The Catholic church promotes a philosophy of “human beings as sinful and bad” and a strong repression of emotions. Sure it has “some good”…..but in the end the majority who follow it are not exactly emotionally healthy and open-minded people. That’s a strong understatment. Those that seem to avoid the damage are usually “nominal” Catholics who don’t practice the religion ( the overwhelming majority in Canada).

The sexual repression is the worst, and the proof is in the pudding.

    John,

I have serious issues with the Roman Catholic church. I have great objections to aspects of their theology (and I include their requirement for a celibate clergy). Nonetheless, I find your post uncharitable and unconvincing. Your assertions are no substitute for evidence and your claim that your assertions are a strong understatement adds no weight to your argument.

I don’t claim that your statements are incorrect (I have done no such research), but they seem contrary to real world experience. As such, I would ask that you provide some sort of evidence for your assertion.

The Catholic Church needs to be held responsible for this, they have records of priets that molest children but instead of bringing it up to the public they simply hide the truth and move the priest to another location. Is this the way for a institution that praises “Jesus” and “God” and the holy way of life. They are basically allowing wolves to feed on the sheeps that gather for salvation.

I attended catholic mass this morning because of my belief in Jesus Christ as our saviour ( my faith is 100% intact) and
as a catholic one of the lesson we are taught is the act of
love and forgiveness of our neighbors. I read the catholic
missal and I saw the name of Bishop Raymond Lahey as
the bishop who signed the “imprimatur” for the missal
imprimatur is a latin term for ( let this missal be printed,
the missal is catholic and correc)….. how sad to know that
this same Bishop is now involved in his own malicious
shameful scandal. I checked google to verify the truth
and I was shocked that this is the same Bishop who signed
off the missal I read this morning. again, even though I
am sad, the same lesson came into mind, please
love and forgive those who sin against Jesus Christ.
who am i to cast the first stone against him ( i am also
asinner like him)…….. just now I said a prayer to Jesus
to please forgive Bishop Lahey and that somehow he
be given another chance to prove himself in court as
innocent and punished if proven otherwise ( sic, he
can be tarred, he can be castrated),,,,, those punishment
are pagan punishment…. Jesus will not allow him to
be punished more ( Jesus is a merciful God and He
will do something to make Bishop Lahey repent for his
sins ( perhaps the vatican, the pope will consider
making rules like celibacy a little less stressful)….. I
will leave the final judgment to Jesus and I pray Biship
Lahey will make amends so he may become a better
person. who am i to judge a sinner when i am also
a sinner like Bishop Lahey ( his act has shamed all
the catholics in canada and other faith may think we
catholics are like him) one snake can make the
forest look like evil. I pray and I hope those priests
and bishops who are doing this same crime will
resign and leave the sacredness of their work and
allow more deserving servants of Jesus to take over
I am still a catholic and I will continue to pray for Bishop
Lahey ( if he reads this comment, I hope he will repent)

catholic priests are individuals who never developed emotionally and socially and were never expected to. my intentions are not to degrade these people. i have an aunt a catholic nun and an uncle a catholic priest. with each of them their egos are phenomenal and as a result they are often cited as being odd. like many clergy they came out of poverty and were considered the elite of their community. i wish that my relationship with them was better but i feel a need to distance myself from extreme views. children should be cherished, supported and loved. possibly some day we may hear this sentiment from a clerical person!

Rumor is that Lahey is staying at the Priest housing on Springhurst Ave. in Ottawa ON–a long brown building with steet number #120.
    Lets keep the kids safe!!
    Enjoy,
