Three little words could mean an end to American prosperity: cap and trade,
The hit to GDP is the real threat in this bill. The whole point of cap and trade is to hike the price of electricity and gas so that Americans will use less. These higher prices will show up not just in electricity bills or at the gas station but in every manufactured good, from food to cars. Consumers will cut back on spending, which in turn will cut back on production, which results in fewer jobs created or higher unemployment. Some companies will instead move their operations overseas, with the same result.
When the Heritage Foundation did its analysis of Waxman-Markey, it broadly compared the economy with and without the carbon tax. Under this more comprehensive scenario, it found Waxman-Markey would cost the economy $161 billion in 2020, which is $1,870 for a family of four. As the bill’s restrictions kick in, that number rises to $6,800 for a family of four by 2035.

Yeah Greg, what do you mean by “plan” in the title? Obama has already destroyed the US economy.

American automobile manufacturers sought to isolate themselves from the market, Silvernails. For year they’ve been producing cars no-one bought. That’s bad business.
It is quite true that in six months Obama hasn’t undone the catastrophic damage wrought over eight years by his predecessor. You will recall that George Bush, John McCain AND Barack Obama all agreed that recovery from this financial crisis would require years. They are correct.
You would be hard pressed to find any support from me relating to George Bush or John McCain’s approach to the economy. The fact that Obama, McCain and Bush all agree means nothing, as I’ve never supported any of their economic policies.
Marxist: nationalizing the auto industry, with known socialists on the Auto Task Force, then the tobacco industry, healthcare is presently in the works and as of today: CRAP and trade! That’s right, Marxist!
Since when is the GOP using any numbers in their proposals? Haven’t they already shown us they are allergic to numbers, or did they just make this set up as one of the silly “talking points”?
It’s really to bad that reasoned discourse has disappeared from our poiitical discussions.

If by “elitist” you mean “uses political terminology correctly”, I’ll plead guilty. As for reading…forgive me if I gently suggest that someone who calls Obama a “Marxist” has probably not read much of Marx.

The economy was already destroyed by the credit crisis. You just disagree on how he is trying to fix it.
