The Dyck Strikes Back
February 4, 2009 · By Adam Dyck
Sorry for my extended absence from this blog, I decided that the proroguement was the perfect opportunity to take a step back from politics and focus on other things. However, I hope to become active again as things pick up.
My first thoughts upon looking at the political stage these days is that the budget doesn’t look like a Conservative budget at all. Not only that, but many Tories don’t seem to care. The following was posted as a comment on theglobeandmail.com:
I didn’t like the budget.
I loved it.Why?
It killed the coalition.
The CPC remain in power. It’s all that matters.
I never thought I’d say it, but I actually wish Chretien was in power. It would be nice to see some fiscal restraint from the governing party.

as the only living conservative in canada i am feeling kind of lonely.
Welcome back Adam!
As I said in a previous post, I don’t blame the Conservatives. I blame the Opposition for holding a gun to their heads.
I would rather have had a bad budget that shows SOME conservative restraint/principle, than a disasterous budget that has zero conservative restraint/principle.
Also on the side of having the Conservatives still in power, they can still pursue a social Conservative Agenda on matters that are not confidence ones. Something far more likely with a Conservative government leaning on the Liberals as opposed to any other combination.
Do I love the budget? No, I do not.
Will I continue to support the Conservatives? Of course. I simply can’t stomach any of the others and I am a Conservative through and through.
I always said Martin/Chretien were the real conservatives.
It’s going to be a madhouse when the conservatives hand all this out.
