Liberals Have Bigger Problems Than Dion

October 18, 2008 · By

Unnamed Liberal insiders, members of the media, and leadership contenders should get it through their heads that they have bigger problems than Dion and the Green Shift.

Things like being broke, having no vision and little party unity spring to mind.

Good luck Iggy.

A few problems for the Liberals:

    1. Geographic isolation – except for Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and Atlantic Canada, they are largely don’t exist.

    2. Visceral dislike for Harper – until they can get past the notion that mouthing platitudes about Harper being Bush Jr constitutes an election platform, they will not resonate with voters.

    3. Quebec – until they have appeal with French Quebeckers, they have no room for growth.

    4. The West – they cannot continue to throw out policies that systematically eliminate the West (ie the Carbon Tax); particularly now that they have lost their stranglehold in Ontario.

    5. An Overrated Team – claims of having a strong team have been truly exaggerated. Of their “stars”, Iggy, Hall-Findlay and Trudeau have never governed before and Rae hasn’t governed well. Iggy, Rae and Goodale are long in the tooth … and Ralph is no Paul Martin in Finance.

    6. Left-ward tilt – they continue to tilt to the Left, leaving the centre to the Tories. This will be accentuated with so many strong lefties in the fold – Rae, Hall-Findlay, Kennedy, Trudeau.

    7. Discord in the party – Can Iggy, Mckenna and other Blue Liberals win in a party where the membership is so clearly tilting to the left. Should they win, will the troops follow? Will opponents walk out the door?

    8. Finances – I understand that they will receive $1.6 million less per year from the Federal government due to their drop in seats. Without a coherent vision, die-hard, money-contributing partisans will be hard to find.

Just a couple of problems, huh?

I don’t have nearly as long as a post as your other two readers.

I liked your blog entry. Simple. To the point. And kind of funny.

    And I even voted Liberal!

As for the media, I am just thrilled to see their asses finally getting sued by someone for defamation. Arthur Kent is suing CanWest.
‘Bout time this constant Conservative bashing was called up on the carpet.
