Exhibit #Umpteen the Only Fashionable Bigotry in Canada is Against Christians
September 5, 2008 · By Shane Edwards
Can somebody please explain to me why it is bigoted to have a radio station dedicated to one religion?
Mr. du Broy knew he would have some trouble with CHRI’s proposal, because the CRTC requires balance in religious broadcasting. Christian music doesn’t have to be offset with, say, Jewish or Muslim music, but Christian talk programs must be countered with discussion about other faiths.
I know we’re all about the “celebration of diversity” here in Canada, but why would you force a Christian broadcaster to air Jewish or Islamic content? How does that celebrate diversity? Wouldn’t just giving the Jewish or Muslim community an opportunity to have their own station be just as tolerant?
Or wait. Didn’t the CRTC already approve the Canadian version of Al-Jazeera?
Does this mean they require Al-Jazeera to air Christian and Zionist programming?
You know government bureaucrats have lost their minds when the “old lady” demographic, supported by 70 letters takes priority over the Christian demographic, supported by 700+.
Or maybe we should be fashionable and just call it what it is: Christianophobia. Bigotry. Systemic prejudice against one identifiable group.

We should no longer be surprised at these things. Christianity-bashing is acceptable everywhere now but just try criticizing any hate-filled cult masquerading as a religion and see what happens. I agree with you Shane but couldn’t they counter your comparison of Al Jazeera by saying that it is a news channel not a religious channel?
I hate to point out the obvious, but al-Jazeera does not bill itself as a religious broadcaster. They present themselves as a news service.
