Canadian Flag Flap - Sanity Prevails

June 4, 2008 · By Shane Edwards

So after a barrage of email and support for the resident of a townhouse strata in Surrey, who dared to fly the Canadian Flag on his unit, the strata council has decided not to move forward with a fine.  It almost seemed unbelievable that one of the other residents complained about the presence of the flag, but it has all worked out in the end.

I’d just like to point out in light of the stupidity that is occurring with the Human Rights Commissions in Canada right now, that this story highlights just how close Canada is to sinking into a morass of self-destructive correctness.  Vigilance is the only defence.

We still don’t know who complained about the flag, and why? I would really like to know what began this foolishness.

The twit who complained about the Canadian flag would have a real hissy fit if she saw the Edmonton Eskimos flag flying on the front of my garage. It flies on one side of the Canadian flag and, due to a complaint, I have a Calgary Stampeders flag flying on the other side. The complainant was my wife, but that’s understandable as she was dropped on her head as a child.
A chap down the street flies a different provincial or territorial flag every day and intersperses them with old Canadian military flags. They look great.

    Powell,
Did you sign a contract that stipulated you couldn’t hang a flag on the front of your garage?

Got something to say?
