From what I gather, Lukiwski never used derogatory slurs. Despite this, he was clearly being derogatory, in my opinion.

Slurs have nothing to do with this event.

------

I confess that I have used slurs in the past and I still do.

Related specifically to this topic, if something is airy-fairy or effeminate, I will call it "gay" for short. For example, I find hyphenated last names to be very gay because they are confusing and they undermine a patriarchal tradition.

--------

Last week, I joined a few friends to watch the World Wrestling Federation's championship at a sports bar. A couple of my buddies are real big fans and it had been a long time since I actually watched a full match. I used to find it entertaining as a kid but grew out of it at around the same time that I grew out of video games.

Well, not much seemed to change in the world of professional wrestling, if you ask me. No matter how many bunny matches they have during the half-time show, the whole thing still seems very gay.

I will give Mr. Lukiwski the benefit of the doubt given the age of the video. I hope for his sake he’s being honest about his change of heart.

Actions speak louder than words. So far, to my ear, Lukiwski's apology sounds like he's being contrite about having created his own political liability, not what he said or did.

Where are his actions to back up his claims? How has he voted in the House of Commons on matters involving GLBT issues? (Would be one example that comes to mind)

We should not lose sight of the fact that the video is not shot when he was in his twenties, but rather when he was near forty. At twenty, I can accept the "young and stupid" claim; at forty I have a bit more trouble with it.

Your post made me think, Matthew, about how I think of the term 'retard', and for that I thank you. While I would rarely use such an epithet, I can't claim to be guilt-free. Then again, I doubt there would be such an outcry if Tom had called people 'retards'. I know I wouldn't have thought much of it.

The other 2 on your list - I can honestly say I have never called people those names to the best of my memory. I feel similarly about any derogatory term for any group of people. I have no respect for those who use them. I hold those who use them accountable, and I have a particularly high standard for those in public office.

That said, it's a flaw of modern politics to believe that people can never change their opinion; once they say something once, that must be their opinion for life. Those who dare change their mind are labelled 'flip-floppers'.

There isn't one of these left wing idiots who can stand up and say they have never used a derogatory term against someone else, and if they did I have an old fashioned derogatory term for them which is "You are a bloody liar."

On the same tape, the prov leader of the Liberal party was called a 'slut', not a peep out of the 'progressives'.
Perhaps if Linda Haverstock had been a lesbian, she would have deserved liberals defending her.

I'd like to add the word "cunt" and "bitch". That's another "misogynistic" word that progressives use against women who disagree with them.
