Why John Tory Will Lose Even If He Wins

January 25, 2008 · By Matthew Campbell

Well there it was, buried in a bunch of glowing endorsements of Fearless Leader: a small, vague note stating that the John Tory campaign to keep last remaining job didn’t officially condone the personal attacks being made on the internet by anonymous individuals who just happened to have posts that read like the JT Press Releases we’ve all been flooded with. Exactly what attacks was this referring to, and how were they wrong though? I mean, here’s a campaign for guy who is practically “hell”-bent to be the next Premier of Ontario and it won’t do anything more than poo-poo supporters who step out of line…and only a few days after the Yes side and Blogging Tories have been pointing out the issue.

Please note this quote, which was re-quoted to me in the post from a couple of days before:

The last thing our party needs is the kind of infighting that would happen in a leadership race. That would only benefit the Liberals. We have to be focused on defeating the Liberals starting now and John Tory has the leadership skills and experience to win the next election.

*-emphasis mine

So basically here we have a confession by the Together With Tory team that as long as all the problems remain secret and un-usable by the Liberals, it’s all good! Forget ethics and honesty and integrity, it’s all about the laurel wreath. It doesn’t matter if the election is more corrupt than a Russian election, or that a good doctor had his name tarnished or that a dedicated youth member of the party had his career threatened by John Tory’s hand-picked youth leader! The fact that you know any of this, according to the Tory people, is a blunder on their part because you know it, not because they allowed it to happen! That is why John Tory has go and that is why he won’t have the support that he needs to win in the 2011 election…because he’s gone back to the same corrupt, bullying campaign tactics that led to this, and there’s enough good people in the party who won’t sit by and help him do it!

The man lost an election against Dalton the useless. He lost an election against David Miller and he lost the Kim Campbell election as a campaign manager. I say he has a losing, not winning record. He should have won the election but the people of Ontario felt his campaign was an endorsement for all things Liberal and decided to stay with the Liberals that lay claim to the name. If he stays on as leader of the OPCP it will mean a guaranteed loss next election as well. We need a leader that’s conservative and proud of it. And a party with a clear conservative message and policy. If we can’t have that we need a new party and leave the Progressives to fight over Liberal turf.

Agreed. Tory is a loser in politics end of story, this is not even debatable by anyone with any brain cells left. Only liberals like this guy and hope he stays alive to prevent a resurgence of conservatism in its heartland… Ontario. I want back the old Ontario and I’m willing to fight for it.

Honestly, after everything that has been happening since the election in October, I don’t know if I can be in a party with Tory as the leader. They took a leadership review vote, that was mandated to happen, and got nasty and dirty. If you want to say that is part of politics, fine, but I am not going to waste my time volunteering for people like that.

Got something to say? (Read the rules first)
