A sentence I never thought I’d see

Romney also benefited from his Mormon religion, the poll results show. Romney captured 94 percent of the voters who identified themselves as Mormon, which made up 25 percent of all Republicans participating in the GOP caucuses.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints estimates there are 170,000 members living in Nevada.

    “Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb!”

Mormons are only slightly less humourous than Scientologists. Only slightly.

I am not sure why this is surprizing. If you knew much about religious demographics in the United States, then you will expect the same results in Idaho and Arizona as well.

i’ve always found the mormons to be typically gracious and pleasant folk. also, their communities seem to suffer fewer of the social ails (crime, divorce, teen preggers, etc) than endured by their contemporaries.

I’ve also typically found Mormons to be gracious and pleasant, although I don’t present them with any sense that I should be a challenge for conversion to them when they’re proselytizing. I also don’t have a negative reaction to their beliefs, even though I believe that a religion that presents itself as a complete system is profoundly wrong-headed.

There is that fact that Utah apparently has very high rates of anti-depressant use, which indicates that, possibly, Mormons are burdened by unrealistic standards of behaviour and morality.

I do not believe, however, that Mormons are Christians…Their conception of deity is and the afterlife is alien to Christianity. I also have major misgivings about the secretiveness surrounding their finances and their temple rituals, which is why I view their involvement in politics with a lot of suspicion.

    Siiiiiiigh.

If you take out the Mormon vote, the Mittster got more than twice the votes of the second candidate, Ron Paul.

    “Siiiiiiigh.”

Yeah, don’t you just hate it when someone doesn’t take the time to look at readily available public data before posting statements online. Statements that pretty much shows their ignorance and then gets pissy when people point it out? I know I hate it…

    Siiiiigh.

Dude, if you’d stop being a loser in assorted ways, you’d know that every commentator on television and in print for months has been writing about how Romney’s mormonism has and will be an electoral liability. Thus the “wonderment” at the above media statement of his mormonism being an electoral strength.

Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate having you around to share profound truths like the fact that there are Mormons in Utah (Oh to have a knowledge of “religious demographics in the United States”!). But really, do you have anything to contribute other than your typical bitchiness?

[Is it time yet for BtE to run crying to Greg? ]

Aaron, you drag thepolitic down. I hope the day comes soon when Greg kicks your ass to the curb to save his own credibility. Right now, you are nothing but a liability to everyone around you. Could the reason that Greg cannot find any new writers be you? You bet it is.

Priceless commentary. It speaks volumes. I don’t have to talk to Greg, you speak loud and clear on your own.

Attention: ThePolitic, I will not now or ever write for ThePolitic until Aaron is kicked to the curb and then perhaps I will consider but only if asked nicely…oh and I’m not too sure if Marsilio and Charles are my cup of tea but I think(although I can’t promise) that George and Mathew are A., O.K.

    p.s.,…heh.

Btw, for those who care, the demographic term used in the US to describe the Mormon settlement pattern from Montana down to Arizona is “the Mormon corridor.” It extends from Southern Alberta, pretty much in a straight line down to Arizona and then into Southern California.

I didn’t learn that on Pridevision, but from the American census. Don’t you just hate economists who check their facts?

How is that for useful and a propos? Again, it shows that when you KNOW things and check your facts that it helps to decode all of that “really hard” information the press throws your way.

At least Marsilio actually believes what he writes. You have to respect him for that.

Mahmood says: “Attention: ThePolitic, I will not now or ever write for ThePolitic until Aaron is kicked to the curb…”

In that case, I should think about leaving. :)

BtE, you’re still boring. Please go away before I fall asleep.

I certainly hope we never lose Aaron any time soon (for what my endorsement matters); he does contribute quite a bit here and the fact that he bothers so many of the critics who post here (with the occasional exception) goes to show how much some people can give but can’t take the harassment! Keep plugging away Aaron!

    Guys, guys, guys,

I appreciate everyone’s contributions here. Lets just learn to get along - or at the very least, ignore each other…

“goes to show how much some people can give but can’t take the harassment…”

Matthew, on that note: I have posted a couple of civil questions in response to your last thread on Aboriginal affairs. If your policy is simply to ignore points you can’t answer, then you should indicate so and spare us the effort of reading and responding to your threads. That would be courtesy, and save us all a lot of time.

“At least Marsilio actually believes what he writes. You have to respect him for that.”

    Why, thank you sir.

  20. Smarter than Ezra on January 21st, 2008 7:34 pm [#]

Any time Marsilio, you one of the few around here with any integrity.

  21. mahmood on January 21st, 2008 9:39 pm [#]

in that case Marsilio should think about leaving.

p.s., kidding, luv ya Marsilio…heh heh

  22. Smarter than Ezra on January 22nd, 2008 9:19 am [#]

Well, maybe be could find a better gig. One that is more topical for him.

  23. dalton on January 22nd, 2008 10:00 am [#]

I see Matthew’s gone dormant again. I think I’m being sulked at.

  24. Smarter than Ezra on January 22nd, 2008 10:36 am [#]

Yeah, it is hard when people point out the obvious, hey Dalton?

Cognitive dissonance is so hard! “I am awesome, but they think I suck, I am awesome, but they think I suck.”

Got something to say?
