I certainly hope we never lose Aaron any time soon (for what my endorsement matters); he does contribute quite a bit here and the fact that he bothers so many of the critics who post here (with the occasional exception) goes to show how much some people can give but can’t take the harassment (BtE comes to mind)! Btw, for those who care, the demographic term used in the US to describe the Mormon settlement pattern from Montana down to Arizona is “the Mormon corridor.” It extends from Southern Alberta, pretty much in a straight line down to Arizona and then into Southern California.

I didn’t learn that on Pridevision, but from the American census. Don’t you just hate economists who check their facts?

How is that for useful and a propos? Again, it shows that when you KNOW things and check your facts that it helps to decode all of that “really hard” information the press throws your way.

Dude, if you’d stop being a loser in assorted ways, you’d know that every commentator on television and in print for months has been writing about how Romney’s mormonism has and will be an electoral liability. Thus the “wonderment” at the above media statement of his mormonism being an electoral strength.

Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate having you around to share profound truths like the fact that there are Mormons in Utah (Oh to have a knowledge of “religious demographics in the United States”!). But really, do you have anything to contribute other than your typical bitchiness?

I’ve also typically found Mormons to be gracious and pleasant, although I don’t present them with any sense that I should be a challenge for conversion to them when they’re proselytizing. I also don’t have a negative reaction to their beliefs, even though I believe that a religion that presents itself as a complete system is profoundly wrong-headed.

There is that fact that Utah apparently has very high rates of anti-depressant use, which indicates that, possibly, Mormons are burdened by unrealistic standards of behaviour and morality.

I do not believe, however, that Mormons are Christians…Their conception of deity is and the afterlife is alien to Christianity. I also have major misgivings about the secretiveness surrounding their finances and their temple rituals, which is why I view their involvement in politics with a lot of suspicion.

i’ve always found the mormons to be typically gracious and pleasant folk. also, their communities seem to suffer fewer of the social ails (crime, divorce, teen preggers, etc) than endured by their contemporaries.
