The Holy Censored
January 16, 2008 · By Marsilio Facino
Pope Benedict withdrew from his scheduled appearance on January 17 after a group of about 100 leftist students occupiedtothe office of Dr. Renato Guarini, the dean of La Sapienza, demanding a withdrawal of the invitation extended to the Pontiff. Earlier a group of 67 professors– a small minority of the faculty– had signed a statement charging that a papal appearance would be inappropriate because, they said, the Pope is hostile to science.

Even further reading on this subject showed many of the objectors were aligned with flat out communist groups on campus.
This is the sad state of higher Western education. it is being run by spoiled hysterical brats.
Ironically enough, it was in Venuzuela where the students aligned with the Catholic Church to oppose Chavez.
What a topsy turvey world.
Threats by students to disrupt the visit were obviously wrong but the statement by faculty members that the visit of the Pope was inappropriate because of his hostility to science seems well within their rights and even reasonable in the circumstances.
Jim, how do you feel about the irony of these mental midgets claiming their school is open to all forms of thought, even as they call for the Pope to be silenced?
What is reasonable about denying speech to those with whom you disagree? I think that ‘reasonable’ would be to allow the Pope to speak, then present your arguments against what he has to say, and allow others to make an INFORMED judgement.
Err there was a long time that the church WAS science. Mind you we have had our modern media drag them through the mud and to some extent rightly so. But since when is the left interested in science? Science for the left is just one more canard for them to control to their own ends.
