Sunday Directives from Toronto

Residents of rural areas, towns, small cities - heck, anywhere that isn’t Toronto - should pony up to pay tribute to Canada’s multiculturalism capital.
Hell, who even needs that weird set of rules called federalism? To listen to Granatstein and the other assorted band of professional editorial whiners from the centre of the universe, one would think that bureaucrats from Ottawa should be surveying potholes on Yonge Street and shoveling the asphalt themselves. Maybe Flaherty should be donning the fluorescent orange himself?
Some advice from a non-loser province: In Alberta, we have a bloated, badly managed, money-sucking civic entity known as the City of Calgary, ably represented by whining urban columnists just like Granatstein. Except that here, editorialists in non-Calgary Alberta protest the idea that taxpayers from Didsbury should have their taxes continually raised to lavish “infrastructure improvements” on the big city. So where are these editorialists in non-Toronto Ontario?

Toronto, for a long time, has united Canada with hatred for it.
Calgary’s working hard to take over this dubious honour.
The problem is that our mayors in Ontario also want the Federal government to do their jobs for them.
They all want the credit for improvements, just don’t want to pay for them.
I can’t help but think that if the conservatives were in power in Ontario that the media and cities would actually be screaming for the right level of government to do something.
Stelmach may be a complete tard, and the worst second choice in the history of Canada for a premier, but at least he doesn’t sit there “waving and banging on his chest” to the federal government to do his job….which he does poorly….which Taft would do even worse….we’re screwed in the next provincial election……Bring back Dinning! he had a brain g’dammit. Hell even Morton has a brain…it’s just a little twisted, but he had some great Ideas, like kicking out the RCMP. Overbloated beauracracy that can’t handle it’s mandate.
As cities ‘mature’ they become increasingly left-wing and incompetent. Municipal responsibilities for infrastructure, waste management, administration etc. should all be uploaded to the provinces. Mayors can have a ‘figurehead’ type of position but it would serve everyone’s interest to keep them away from any real power.
I grew up in a small town but then as a young adult went to the shitty to seek my fortune. Well the immigrants got a fortune anyways. I think the rural folk should do the following: bomb the roads going into the city. Dam the rivers going in, and blow up the sewers coming out. The don’t send any more food in and see how low the commies can hold out.
Ha! Love it.
