Tasers: Instruments of Affirmative Action?
November 20, 2007 · By Aaron Unruh
One wonders if tasers are growing in popularity because they level the playing field between officers of different physical capabilities, important in a world of affirmative action.

You sir have nailed it, I myself aspire to be a police officer I’ve lived my life since grade 2 doing nothing that would hinder that dream, sadly I often wonder if Im physically capable of taking down some of the people that my father has in his very long career. standing at just 5′8 Im not exactly a towering figure of authority. So the taser is a nice tool to have if your in a tight spot. But recently I’ve seen with my older brother who stands at a massive size of 5′4 or so holds his own very well thanks to his training and I imagine over inflated ego.
Ridiculous. The point of carrying such equipment in law enforcement is for officer and public safety, and to have an upper hand on the level of force being used against the officer.

Sorry folks but not too long ago a report came out that Female Police Officer that work during the safer Day-Shift have a 90% average rate for calling in for “Back-ups” when similar problem-calls are responded to by Male Officers .
Don’t be fooled by the lack of exposing the Union demands and Insurance restriction for Benefit Plans with a STD and LTD provision , when the Cops lowered the age from 25 to 21 and the Cadet age from 21 to 19 it also saw the Height standards lowers after a Asia group cried Racism that it was to keep them out and enforce the Myth that most Asia are short ( Figure that one out? , you demand the rules be changed because it offends you that the Rule implies your too short merely by Race , so you then demand the Height be lower because you’re short as a racial group .) .
Unions protect Workers , Insurance Companies want to make money above the inflation rate and current investment rates
or they will just park the money in High-Interest instruments with little risk .
This sets the stage for a battle to reduce the Risks to Workers and meet all the Demands for Benefits that try to avoid a Worker from the exposure to possible Injury to make a LTD claim that might really be a Workers Comp issue.
We now have a 2-person rule for the Night-Shift to accomadate Females because I have yet to see 2 female Officer in the same Cruiser at Night , I don’t see female Motor Cycle Cops or Sikh ones because of the Helmet rules in Ontario for Bikes and Motorized vehicles of the like that are Heavy and designed for persons that can lift it back up after a fall with a near 500lbs dead weight.
There are no doubt some PTSD claims for female cops that had to shoot and kill someone that she didn’t know about from the Employment Promo flyers with happy Cops returning a lost Child them attending a fender bender ,men don’t enjoy killing people either but a Female with kids is closer to the ‘Transference’ zone to porject the Parent grief onto her as a mother while a Male sees the lesser of two evils to stop a madman from hurting more people.
Just as a note about the Turban issue , I’m against it because there is a Clause in the Union and Benefits rules that any Faith based head dress exempts the Worker from any Riot-Squad duty or Emergency duty where a Helmet must be worn for protection and interferes with the Faith by removing the Head Dress.
So if your spouse is a Cop and you get a call that they died from injuries at a Peace Rally because Fellow Officers at the Station that were brauny males have a Head Dress exemption to avoid the danger in a Riot Squad gear , keep this in mind since the Salaries and fixed based on the Job title
Codes but it allows non-Turban/Hijab wearing Officers to be forced into danger and risk for the exact pay.
Employment equity my A$$ , we’ve catered to the lowest common denominator to offend the least amount of people while the Majority of Citizens suffer the higher risks
and less services from a City like Toronto
that uses about 85% of the $7.5 Billion Budget for Benefits and Wages to the Workers befor we even see them provide a Service .
Miller expects Ontario and Canada to bail him out of his Over-spending addiction and just this week Miller approved the City borrowing another $200 million to add to the $2.5 Billion debt and he has the nerve to
cry broke when he talks about the under-funding issue.
Some of the Unionized Services are a Money-Pit to buy votes with higher wages and less work , and one night on a TV show Howard Moscoe looked at the camera and told a caller that the TTC will never break even or make money…it’s the price you pay for living in Toronto as a Service.
No wonder the TTC wants new Cadillac Buses and less stress loads , in fact we just had the Homocide in the Subway back in May when Union workers on the Night Shift suffered an accident from a fail matainence
by another Union worker and they left the serious injured worker to die while they escape up to Yonge Street to await Grief-Counselors for TTC tragedies .
Yes that was a Homocide but once the TTC Union and Miller realized what happened they abandoned the “wildcat Strike” threats from Bob Kinnear for Safety issue and told the media it was a tragic Accident where a new Employee was crushed by metal debris in the tunnel.
Forget the TASER case for now , lets expose the Union Workers at the TTC that get away with Murder like the Trian Operator that tried to comit Suicide at the Dupont Station when he rammed into another Train because all the Trip-Switches failed from neglect inspection the Union workers were paid to do , this too was given a label of a Tragedy and the Investigation absolved everyone and the Driver never was held responsible because the Union protected him.
Do you see a pattern here people , we are paying for a lower standard every decade or so while the Taxes go up every year just to cover a Myth about Employment Equity by believing that everyone is the same and all the shortcomings are from Racism or gender barriers , just wait until the Olympic events start using GOLD for every winner and they stop recording the performance scores for fear it stereotypes a Race as being good Runners or fat men as good shot-putters and weight lifters.
Nail on the head with this one. Many police procedures have been changed for those reasons. No longer is the six-foot of misery (or a 5′4″ Manuel, because we’re talking about will and strength here)allowed to kick in a door and grab a rat by the scruff of the neck: because a 115-pounder can’t do it, no-one else is allowed to do it. It’s telling that four young men in their prime (obviously with no unarmed combat training - why? Well, same reason)feel it necessary to resort to a weapon, as would four 115lb female officers. Older officers would have reacted much differently; another telling point. All those with any say in police matters hew to the official affirmative action line. See Sentinel above. What a waste.
