    You’ll note, however, that more people from Manitoba thought he was “western” than people from Saskatchewan or B.C.

    Weird!

    I actually think this stuff is interesting. The term “The West” is mostly a political (or geographic, to be banal) phrase, since it’s impossible to capture the differences between the four western provinces in a single cultural category.

    Actually, regarding BC…Harper’s from Alberta. That’s east of here.

    Harper is actually from Ontario.

    Stephen Harper was born on April 30, 1959, in Toronto, Ontario. He moved to Alberta in 1978 to work in the petroleum industry and went on to obtain both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Calgary.

    If only Queen Victoria had picked Winnipeg as the Nation’s Capital…it would have been neither east nor west…just “the middle”. Hee!Hee!
