George Freeman: A Trip Down Memory Lane

September 19, 2007 · By Aaron Unruh

Fabulous commenter “Better Than Ezra” has recently performed an invaluable public service by chronicling much of the wit and wisdom provided by George Freeman on this site over the years. Fans will want to sit back and enjoy this trip down memory lane:

“What utterly original criticism! Stated like a true hardcore adherent of a cult; one who has gone all wet, without reason or accountability, on the non-sense that is same sex marriage.”

“It takes a certain morally indignant loser to seriously pay homage at the altar of sexual orientation; justifying their choosing to become what they choose to become for the sake of its idolatrous veneration.”

“Presumably you can’t read. Read what I wrote.”

“Amazing how you two morons can carry on without making one well-reasoned argument.”

“You’re very earnest, but not very perceptive; quite irrational really. Yes, quite.”

“Really? Did the stork bring you or how were you brought into this world? Sex is sex, requiring the compatible physiology of men and women. Maybe you should watch more National Geographic, or maybe take up lawn care.”

“Consummate” a same-sex union? Huh!!! It goes without saying, lesbians can’t even sodomize each other. Lesbian sex? What!!! Did you learn about this on National Geographic. By definition, does not sex require at least one person of each sex?

“What an ultimate form of commitment! Especially so considering they will never be able to father children or face the challenges of intimately getting on with the opposite sex, not to mention the fact that human mortality makes it all meaningless anyway.”

“Social Justice, gender equality, blah blah blah blah …. Anyone else sick of living in a loser country?”

“SSM makes incest laws obsolete. Two brothers can’t actually have sex, so there is no “risk” to any potential off spring because there is no potential for off spring.”

“Also, it’s dangerous for judges to be lamenting: “they understood ?the social indignities and economic difficulties? gay couples have faced.” Empathy is nice, but all niceties aside, so what? Courts should arbitrate existing law, not pull new law out of thin air, departing the world of facts for fanciful rationalisations.”

“We all have to discriminate at some point, and it remains unclear why keeping marriage between a man and a woman was unjustifiable discrimination, being a fundamentally unique human relationship to any other two person union.”

Just to put George’s assertions of the definition of ’sex’ to bed, so to speak:
    sex:
3.a. sexually motivated phenomena or behavior
    3.b. sexual intercourse
    sexual intercourse:
    2. intercourse (as anal or oral intercourse) that does not involve penetration of the vagina by the penis
    http://mw1.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sex

What George is referring to as ’sex’ may be more properly defined as ‘coitus’, or penetration of the vagina by the penis.

This may be the root of the disagreement between George and others regarding homosexual ’sex’.

You can tell a series is just about ready to be wrapped up (and that the writers don’t have anything left to give) when the producers make a rhetrospective episode.

Is this an indication of things to come? Will George be leaving us? Perhaps your five-minutes of fame are over, now that you made “history” George.

Whatever will you do with your time?

    History cut short…

Hey, I enjoy the debates, whether or not i agree with the individual commentators…

I just want people to avoid the off-topic banter, that’s all.

Btw, Aaron, “Better Than Ezra” is an American alternative rock trio based in New Orleans, Louisiana.

    “Smarter than Ezra” is me.

So then, based on this point of view, would you have allowed this thread to have even started? Or is this a topic worthy of thepolitic?

    Just checking for future reference.

“You can tell a series is just about ready to be wrapped up (and that the writers don’t have anything left to give) when the producers make a rhetrospective episode.”

Uh huh, except that you wrote the retrospective.

“Or is this a topic worthy of thepolitic?”

    Why wouldn’t it be?

Going to be writing here soon, Mr. Critical? I understand that you’ve been extended an invitation to do so.

“Uh huh, except that you wrote the retrospective.”

Indeed, and you didn’t have anything better to write, so you reproduced it without my permission; Intellectual property is such a tricky thing to regulate on the internet, especially when there is no honour amongst writers.

As for writing here, I told Greg maybe after Xmas. Right now I have too much on my plate: Got married this summer, working full-time as a Senior Policy Analyst, doing my Masters degree in Public Policy part-time, and moving to a new house in October. It is a lovely brand new house, eco-friendly with all the bells and whistles, right next to an excellent lake with good canoeing and fishing.

“…so you reproduced it without my permission; Intellectual property is such a tricky thing to regulate on the internet, especially when there is no honour amongst writers.”

Right. I’m very sorry for not respecting the intellectual property of someone who posts comments under a pseudonym, and for re-posting the comment on the same site that you posted your original comment to, and for attributing the quote to your pseudonym. What a horribly dishonorable thing to do. Are you eventually going to be serious, or what?

“Got married this summer, working full-time as a Senior Policy Analyst, doing my Masters degree in Public Policy part-time, and moving to a new house in October. That’s nice. It’s sounds like you have a very pleasant life. Between long-winded expositions on how well your life is going and the sort of mean-spirited comments you make regarding the personal lives of George and myself, my only question is: Who exactly are you trying to convince here?

  10. Smarter than Ezra on September 19th, 2007 3:35 pm [#]

I don’t really want to get into a pissing match about intellectual property, Aaron. Nor did I say I had any honour either.

If the only way to shut down the ridiculous discussions you guys keep trying to bring back to thepolitic is to act like an ass, then, so be it. But remember this, it has been personal for a LONG time, and both you and George dish it out as much as I do.

I don’t really think I am trying to convince anyone, I don’t have to.

My final thought on this thread is this: Aaron, stick to what you are good at, and write about the things you know rather than rehashing stuff from other threads. A little value added would be nice, and some original thought would be much welcomed, not only by myself, but the other poor souls who have been subjected to this crap.

  12. Aaron Unruh on September 19th, 2007 3:39 pm [#]

To be perfectly honest, if you can’t engage in discussions on public policy issues like same-sex marriage without becoming personally involved, that’s not my problem.

You’re too busy to post? Considering that I average about five minutes for each post here and the current volume of your comments, perhaps you’re underestimating your inability to be a blogger?

  13. Aaron Unruh on September 19th, 2007 3:41 pm [#]

“A little value added would be nice, and some original thought would be much welcomed, not only by myself, but the other poor souls who have been subjected to this crap.”

Once again: If you are so concerned for the poor souls that read this blog, then start writing posts yourself.

As far as intellectual property goes, I believe the words were, to a large extent, mine. :-) And Aaron is correct, the retrospective was provided by STE.

I concur with Mr. Unruh, maybe STE would be more interested in actual discussion, as opposed to keeping an autobiographical journal of his happy happy life, if he were a contributor. Considering Greg refers to him already as one of the “guys,” we at The Politic can’t be that bad.

George, I would respond to your comment, but I am much too busy tending to this beautiful and expensive house I own which overlooks a stunningly peaceful lake and there’s a deer looking in the window at me. I will soon have to tuck my handsome son and my beautiful daughter into bed, before retiring to my own gorgeous bedroom to make love to my supermodel wife. After a full night’s sleep, I will have to go to my important high-ranking job in a very important firm doing vitally important things and getting paid lots and lots of money to do it. So you’ll have to excuse me if I don’t reply to your comment. Toodles!

Heh heh, that’s lovely, do you mind if I steal your comment and insert it in the mass mailing Christmas card this year? heh heh, that StE fellow is gold.

  17. George Freeman on September 20th, 2007 1:12 am [#]

Well Aaron, at least you don’t have to shave the back of your supermodel wife before retiring for the evening. She is a supermodel after all.

“I average about five minutes for each post here”

    It shows.

    Okay, so wax then?

  20. Clay on September 21st, 2007 9:00 am [#]

Just to make the important issues clear, I am perfectly capable of shaving my own back, thank you very much.

  21. Smarter than Ezra on September 21st, 2007 9:55 am [#]

I just thought of something brilliant. Aaron, if your supermodel wife likes “backdoor” then maybe your marriage IS equivalent to mine.

  22. Greg Farries on September 21st, 2007 10:21 am [#]

What the hell did I just say?

Cut this off-topic bullshit out. That goes for the contributors and the commenters…

  23. Smarter than Ezra on September 21st, 2007 10:26 am [#]

:o) I would say I am sorry, but I am not. If Aaron and George want to keep bringing up SSM as a “policy” discussion (which, you must admit, it never is - at least not the definition of policy you and I would consider) then I am afraid this is all you are going to get from me, Greg.
