Global Warming Causes Everything, except hurricanes

September 5, 2007 · By

Damn weathermen haven’t yet seen “An Inconvenient Truth”:

…weather experts believe it is too soon to blame climate change for the unprecedented punch of back-to-back monster hurricanes.

In other news, really smart people are explaining that (a) Al Gore said that global warming would case more hurricans, (b) we’re seeing more hurricanes, therefore (c) Al Gore is god.

The economist Steven Levitt once said that seemingly related events are often not directly correlated. For instance, x and y may both produce z, but that doesn’t mean there is a correlation between x and y. What we have right now is a theory that the trend in global temperature anomalies have caused an increase in hurricane force, but we don’t have definitive proof for this correlation.

For instance, little did we know in 1973 that Roe v Wade would create a correlation in the reduction of crime. In 1993 people could only speculate on a number of factors that were seemingly related. Increase police presence seems to decrease crime, therefore increased police created the crime rate fall of the 90′s.

With time and perspective and facts we now have a theory that abortion has played a significant role in the reduction of crime in the United States since the 1980′s.
