Top Canadian Political Weblogs Ranked

Paulitics updates the list of top political blogs in the country and ThePolitic.com came in at number four! Before we start to break out the champagne and toast our wild popularity, it should be noted that Paulitics is using Alexa data to come up with the rankings. While Alexa is good at tracking patterns of traffic, it isn’t that accurate at assessing traffic (more info on why it isn’t accurate can be found at Wikipedia).
Perhaps a better method of assessing the top political blogs in the country would be to include traffic and other statistical info from a multitude of traffic/ranking services. Companies like, Blog Pulse, Technorati, Alexa, Compete, Google (with PageRank), (among others) provide traffic and or other statistics to assess overall popularity.
If anyone is interested in tackling a project like this, drop me an email and we can work together…
If somebody’s willing to do all that work, do keep me posted on that as well, because I’d be interested to see the results.
I totally acknowledge that Alexa.com was an imperfect way of ranking the sites, but it took SOOO much time to do it that I just didn’t have the energy to go through the whole process all over again with other ranking sites.
If somebody else has more endurance than me, I’ll happily link to their results.

I totally understand – I appreciate the work you’d done! However, most of this info can be queried automatically. A little PHP magic and we could have a full list of all the sites with all the statistical information attributed to each.
Actually, I saw a site the other day that provided functionality similar to this. You’d input a site and it would spit out all the traffic/ranking information (from all the services above and more) on one easy to read page.
I can’t think of the name of the site now, but I’ll go back into my browser history and track it down…
