Journalists like Adam Radwanski: All Hail our Benevolent Oracles!

Otherwise referred to as the least insightful paragraph written in the history of Canadian journalism:

Before anything else, let’s all hail the long, long overdue promotion of Diance [sic] Ablonczy. Her exclusion from cabinet always struck me as one of Harper’s pettiest moves, especially because it’s never quite been clear what his problem with her is. Presumably, it’s that she was a Manning loyalist.

On this view, Harper holds a petty grudge against every single Conservative MP that he didn’t appoint to cabinet. It’s not, after all, quite clear what his problem with all these MPs is. Since when did a cabinet appointment become an affirmative right for MPs?

As for the Manning connection, that makes perfect sense. Harper is always looking for opportunities to grind his former opponents into the dust. Like Stockwell Day, whom Harper defeated for the leadership of the Alliance. Or Jim Prentice, who in the days of the PC Party used to criticize Harper. Hell, if those real opponents had to deal with the onslaught of Harper by, err, receiving senior cabinet appointments, then surely someone like Ablonczy who is perceived to be connected to someone with whom Harper had a few disagreements a decade ago is destined for obscurity under the Harper Regime.

Oh yeah, and did you know that Ablonczy originally introduced Stephen Harper to Laureen Teskey? The two were so thoroughly disgusted by this introduction by Ms. Ablonczy that they later married and had two children. I don’t expect Radwanski, with all his insider knowledge and insight, to have known this. But clearly the roots of personal animosity and hatred between Harper and Ablonczy are revealing themselves here.

I get more insight from reading three letters of Kathy Shaidle’s blog than I do from reading entire columns of Radwanski’s. One day, Canadian media may assume the form of a meritocracy. On that day, Adam will paste a Mary Kay sticker to the back of his car.
