Indian Enrichment Process Continues

The 358 members of the Tsawwassen First Nation head to the polls Wednesday to decide whether to ratify B.C.’s first urban treaty, a process 14 years in the making.

If the members vote to ratify the treaty, they will get $40 million, a share of the Fraser River salmon catch and 372 hectares of Crown land south of Vancouver near the mouth of the Fraser River

Sooooo, 40 million divided by 358 is $ 111,731.00 per member. And that doesn’t even take into account the ongoing value of the salmon fishery and prime lower mainland real estate. Not bad work if you can get it.

Oh, sorry, did I say “work”?

This historic treaty also dumps the Indian Act, gives Natives equality (can own a business) instead of special status, and eventually Natives will be paying taxes.
This community agrees to pay TAXES, a first in Canadian history.

$100K is not alot in todays economy, if you are starting at zero.

Giving every aboriginal a hundred thou in order to scrap the Indian Act would be cheaper for Canada in the long run, and it would stop Indian Chiefs from being able to exploit poor aboriginals by law – they would still rob them blind of course, but they wouldn’t have the weight of the law behind them like they do now.

Nice. Any thoughts to share other than prejudicial one-offs?

Ryan, Aaron doesn’t think – he paraphrases and parrots. He is too busy “working” to think for himself.

[...] and sign a silly international treaty that will obligate the government to add billions more to the Indian Enrichment Project [...]
