Like NASCAR? You earth-hating bastard!

June 18, 2007 · By

Nothin’ sez “I hate the Earth” like sponsorin’ a NASCAR vehicle.

On that fantabulous note, Canadian progressives have once again commenced the process of hating anything that they associate with Stephen Harper. With hilarious results:

This shows how little respect and concern the CPC decision makers have wrt green causes. It also shows how out of touch the CPC is wrt mainstream Canadian values.

Support NASCAR? You must hate the environment. And because “mainstream Canadian values” consist of equal parts Gore and Suzuki-worship, Canadians (excepting Albertans, who of course aren’t Canadians at all) must also hate NASCAR.

And then there’s always those damn kittens. Nothing says, “I’m an evil conservative bastard” like adopting stray kittens.

“You like NASCAR? How un-Canadian.”

Ha ha . . . just wait, next they’ll be saying that NASCAR is racist, too!

Well I guess we are going to have to fire about three quarters of the Navy then, because NASCAR and hockey are about that is talked about wrt sports. That and the NFL.

Not sure if the same applies to my Air Force and Army brethern, but I have my suspicions.

PS, where did that drivel come from?

    PPS, Go Jeff!! ;)

Slow day in the blogging world Unruh? Pretty crappy post, dude.

Of course Liberals only support F1. That’s so much more civilized.

I now watch NASCAR because it’s all reruns on the Food network.

    Oh Ezzy, you’re fabulous.

This is stupid for so many reasons, but at the very least, because NASCAR sucks. It’s seriously pointless. Rally racing is the sh*t – they actually turn right occasionally and drive on anything, anywhere, anytime. If you’re going to waste fuel then it should be wasted by the best drivers on the planet.

As for the politics, I don’t see why the CPC doesn’t spend their oodles of cash on a charitable cause of some sort, or children’s sports, or something slightly more useful than NASCAR. If this is the depth of their ideas, then they are seriously bankrupt.

I find it incredible that the CPC has done this with the wads of cash it has elicited from party supporters, one of whom used to be me (cash-wise). Anon hints at other practical, more politically-positive uses of this money.

    Gobstruck….

Looks like I finally got my own troll… I am not sure if it is a compliment that someone else is using my name or not. Meh, whatever.

Canadian progressives? Dare I pick someone like the Canadian Sentinel and use him as representative of general CPC thought? Give yer head a shake Aaron.

Now personally I like NASCAR, I specifically upgraded my cable package just so I could get the Speed channel and watch it, hell man, I even go to the track and watch the cars go ’round and ’round in person, used to take my kids when they were still living at home.

Having said that it really should be a no brainer that a party that is trying to be greener than the other parties participating in the great Canadian “Look At US!! We’re The Greenest Of Them All!!” race really should have considered that this was bound to create some political fodder.

    – and there will be more to follow, just wait until the CPoC car slams into a wall trying to make one of those left turns…. there’s gonna be some funnies out of that one I can assure you.

Potential other sources of humour will include, breaking down at the start line, blowing an engine, failing to finish because the spoiler fell off, spinning in circles on the back straight, spinning [out] to the right, pit crew confusion, and, horror of horrors, running out of gas.

It’s a singularly bad piece of messaging. Whatever else the strengths of this government may be, their communications strategies have been the absolute pits for a year and a half.

The conservatives hooking up with Bourque is an excellent idea to boost their profile and gain traction with Canadian voters. While the conservatives drop the hammer the DNF Liberals, DNS Dippers and DNQ Greens can only stand and watch… forlornly.

  15. balbulican on June 19th, 2007 1:43 pm [#]

That’s kind of what I mean. They seem to be directing their messages pretty much exclusively to the more thuggish side of their existing fan base. No growth there.

  16. stageleft on June 19th, 2007 2:12 pm [#]

I hardly think that teaming up with Bourque or sponsoring a Cdn NASCAR qualifies as “dropping the hammer” – it’s a few days of media coverage, and some hype in the blogosphere, but by the end of the week, other than the odd joke on somebodies blog, it will be over with except for a few future, “remember when’s”

  17. Aaron Unruh on June 19th, 2007 2:29 pm [#]

I happen to think that NASCAR is ridiculous. But unlike certain morons, I don’t think that liking it is unCanadian. Stageleft: Maybe you should talk to him about this.

  18. smarter than balbie on June 19th, 2007 2:37 pm [#]

Watch “Million Dollar Stephen” or if you prefer “The WonderBoy” of Canadian politics on the throttle dialing in with Canadians this summer while Dion sucks in the “dirty air”, Layton fumbles his “drop limiter” and Lizzy stands around calculating her “dry air”. Zoooooooom, go get that checkered (majority) flag Stephen.

[...] haters, imagine that…. there is humour in this though JimBobby as I said over at ThePolitic …it really should be a no brainer that a party that is trying to be greener than the other [...]

Talk to JimBobby about thinking NASCAR is unCanadian? Since I can’t find anywhere that he actually said that maybe I’d be better off asking you for a source.

JimBobby is passionate about the environment, that’s not a bad thing at all, more people should be as passionate. 6,500 gallons of fuel is a lot of fuel over a week-end, I didn’t know that, and it’s definitely worth thinking about. I’m willing to bet that in a few years when we’re all paying a hell of a lot more per litre than we are today it’s something that a lot of people will be wishing somebody had thought about.

I also agree that there is a lot of unnecessary waste of fuel in our society, and recreational use of it is not exactly what anyone could call environmentally friendly. Being an evening and week-end recreational type biker during the summer makes me part of that problem, it’s why I don’t complain about the price I pay for gas.

Got something to say? (Read the rules first)
