Alasdair. I don't think John Tory made any of those statements. I read them as Mathew's own statements.

“Dalton McGuinty is a MISleader”

Yeah true enough

“The PC Party must win seats in the GTA at all costs”

How else are they to form the government?

“Social conservatives have no place to play in a civilized society”

And he's FOR funding of Evangical Christian Schools and for Catholic Schools? Oh horrors they oppose gay marriage! Just because he's not a social conservative doesn't mean he's anti-social conservative. Don't forget Stephen Harper had warned about the Reform Party needing to avoid becoming a Social Conservative Party

“Social conservatives are dumb sheep who will vote for us no matter what”

If they want the most socially conservative person that can form the government they will.

“Fiscal conservative values are too scary for your average Ontarian”

Moderate Fiscal Conservatism no. But after the Harris years people in Ontario decided that they were tired having their kids out of school cause of teachers. Seeing as they can't change the teachers they changed the government. They are not ready to go back.

“Throwing money at it makes a problem go away”

I don't think he ever said it did? Have you read the platform BEYOND the faith based school funding?

“The difference between me and McGuinty is that I’ll throw money to those groups neglected under the Liberals”

The difference is that he'll trim the fat return the Health Premium to the pockets of Ontarians, and keep his word. He'll get the job done.

“Violent groups like youth involved in crime or Natives just need to be asked ‘please’”

Again read his platform. This is just a baseless attack on him. I believe one of the platform promises was "Equal Laws for everyone" obviously referring to Caledonia.

"Tell me which of these I would want to support? Are there any that I missed because, trust me, I’m looking?"

Moving 10% of Government Jobs out of Toronto, making money by selling the expensive Toronto offices and buying inexpensive offices closer to where people live thus reducing the money spent on roads to transport them and reducing the pollution which leaves huge health care costs.

More Long Term Beds to free up more expensive Hospital beds for those who need them.

Capping Property Tax Assessments.

Removing Interprovincial Trade Barriers

Removing the Health Care Premium.

Spending Fuel Taxes on Roads that the drivers use and Transit which reduces congestion, saves the environment, and saves tonnes of money on road repair.

That and the prospect of having someone remotely Right Wing run Ontario again. If Harris was in charge again we'd be in the 20s. Ontarians decided the great benefits weren't worth having to stay home for a week or two a year to look after kids who couldn't go to school cause of teachers. That and he's been marred by the Dudley George incident even though the Tribunal was essentially a witch hunt out to get him.

Well, he is a centrist Conservative. Perhaps he doesn't appeal to the farther right.

Oh yeah -- a hike in the minimum wage, more spending on arts and culture, increased spending across the board in other areas, a marketing board for farmers, etc. Real conservatives should be on their knees grovelling with gratitude....

I'm with Raphael - you have to consider the policies overall - and the integrity of the candidate or leader. And as far as I know, no one other than George Smitherman has ever questioned John Tory's integrity or his ability to do what he says he will do (sound familiar?). I just checked out the new platform on line and I found lots for a real conservative to like.

And as for the Mis-leader video - I thought it was extremely funny. My advice - get a funny bone.

The thing is, the UN has declared that Ontario is violating human rights by subsidizing the Catholic system but no other religious schools.

Harris tried to address this with his tax credits for private schools proposal which Eves later cancelled.

What I don't understand is how Tory is less of a Conservative for reintroducing a policy that Harris supported.

Raphael, what IS John Tory's overall message? So far, the only things I can say he believes are:

"Dalton McGuinty is a MISleader"
"The PC Party must win seats in the GTA at all costs"
"Social conservatives have no place to play in a civilized society"
"Social conservatives are dumb sheep who will vote for us no matter what"
"Fiscal conservative values are too scary for your average Ontarian"
"Throwing money at it makes a problem go away"
"The difference between me and McGuinty is that I'll throw money to those groups neglected under the Liberals"
"Violent groups like youth involved in crime or Natives just need to be asked 'please'"

Tell me which of these I would want to support? Are there any that I missed because, trust me, I'm looking?

I don't agree with funding for religious schools, but one must vote for a political candidate based on his overall message. And in this case, John Tory is the best representative for Ontario.
