Charles Adler Takes Down Strategic Pollster

May 24, 2007 · By

Via SDA, Charles Adler flays Tim Wollstencroft of Strategic Counsel over their poll showing Canadians apparently supporting negotiating with the Taliban. A good example of “push polls.” One could find lots of other examples of such polls.

Benny Hill music makes all the difference, I’m afraid. ;)

Well, perhaps. I’ve taken note of your request and will consider it in future podcasts! lol

Adler’s objection is that Canadians don’t actually know what the Taliban was like in power. Tell them beforehand, and the balance of people favouring negotiations would shift. But I’m personally not so sure.

Your scepticism regarding whether Canadians would choose a different option in the poll if they knew what the Taliban are is probably sound. It is nicely demonstrated by the position of the NDP leadership.

I understand your point, Aaron and civ, but I tend to agree with Adler. While there is a segment of Canadian society that is informed about the Taliban yet still support NDP foreign affairs positions, I think that there is a larger chunk that don’t understand the evil that inspires the Taliban and would have voters differently had they espoused this knowledge.

    Hi Charles
Well what a bloody mess to find ourselves in indeed. First – since we all have tremendously short memories the whole coalition claim that Harper did not try to work with them is of course bunk. I remember thinking how petty how small how deviously infantile the other parties were….before the last election in an attempt to avoid a costly election at an already economically dire time Harper did indeed approach the NDP and the Liberals to work together on the country’s ills in order to avoid an election and protect the country from the iineffectual nature of a minority government.
Your radio station dutifully reported the meetings and the pathetic outcome; that being these guys were not willing to work on some sort of workable compromise to save Canada, It was obvious then they wanted power for themselves and not Canada.
Now if we must and it appears in this politically correct environment the ONLY thing that really matters is where the blame will land let us indeed place the blame (if we need blame) squarely where it belongs – THE VOTERS – or should i say lack there of – there is an old libertarian chestnut that states people get the government they deserve …. well thanks Canada your apathy, your self centered self entitled laziness and penchant for playing with your blackberrys, computers and various other technilological soothers resulted in yet another pathetic turnout come election time…..the cowardly canadian who has not the intestinal fortitude to stand up and be counted but has indeed the powerful index finger to point sat at home election night and perpetrated another impotent minority government.
I don’t know why we have so little spine – are we afraid to be thought of as stupid, as foolish as unsophisticated. We have allowed the political correct fashion of the day to castrate each and every one of us to the point that we are incapable of forming and supporting an opinion which indeed spills over in to politics, We are terrified to vote for the wrong guy in the event that he is unpopular or not cool or politically incorrect.
I receive a great deal of flack from people for listening to , what they refer to as my right wing ranting radio talk show hosts,….you, Rutherford and Michael Savage from time to time as well as some others …I have even tuned in to Rush Limbaugh from time to time….this is not to say i agree with everything that is being said but i enjoy the conversational fibre introduced to an otherwise milktoast and bland society. So these are my two points – this situation i believe arose straight out of the lard assed namby pamby Casper Milktoast who couldn’t get off his beer soddened couch and make a statement for the democracy that is really so fragile and precious. I work in third world countries and i see how we could be living if not for the sacrifice and toil of many people who give us the comfortable and privileged life style we have here in Canada…..and for the record i am all for punting the overindulged quebecois into the Atlantic Ocean with a heart felt aurevoir ….. they are like spoiled teens who have been pandered to all their lives and just want more for the sake of wanting more no reason or sensibility to it…..thank you for allowing me the opportunity to vent even if you dont read this i at least got to type it.

    regards
    carol

Don’t look at me Carol: I voted Conservative.

Hey Kenny, did you see Carol’s description of you? “Namby, pamby, milquetoast”? How did she know you were here? Shall I tell her she can find you over at:

    http://www.torontostar.com?

Carol! I share your frustration with Quebecers. We should not blame the Blackberry’s though. Without the net, we would not have a voice at all. The media has leapt over the wall of bias and they are into full-fledged censorship of anything from the Right! Soon, the left will be purging the ‘net of anything remotely right wing and Conservative.

Bloody mess is right Carol. Too many quiche-eaters desperate to be hip, vote for milquetoast, global whiners like Dion and weasels like Layton, or do not vote at all.

Got something to say? (Read the rules first)
