Global Warming on Mars - Quick Gore, Grab Your Camera!

April 30, 2007 · By Greg Farries

Scientists from Nasa say that the planet Mars has warmed rapidly since the 1970s.

Mars is being hit by rapid climate change and it is happening so fast that the red planet could lose its southern ice cap, writes Jonathan Leake.

Scientists from Nasa say that Mars has warmed by about 0.5C since the 1970s. This is similar to the warming experienced on Earth over approximately the same period.

Ah, exquisite reasoning of the Climate Change Sceptic.

    a) A volcano is erupting in the Phillipines:

    b) Therefore, appearances to the contrary, my house is not on fire.

    Balbulican,

You appear to have missed the point. Let me break it down for you.

There is the theory that the Earth is being warmed by the sun, not CO2.

If that were true, other planets would be warming as well, since we share a sun.

Other planets are warming as well. This means at least part of global warming is being caused by the sun.

I’m sorry if some of these words are too big for you. I’ll try to include pictures next time.

George W. Bush’s fault. He’s everywhere. No sign of Al Gore yet, the fruit fly expert is also a no-show.

I knew that this would happen ,The EVIL American devil-dogs sent the “Mars Rover” (just another name for S.U.V.)to Mars and destroyed the enviroment. Maybe I shouldn’t have said that, it will give the Eco-retards some one to blame now.

Luke, if you’re going to try the wry mock superiority gambit, at least do it with a bit of originality, would you?

As for what I suppose I should refer to as the “substance” of your post (given that antonym for “substance” does not spring readily to mind) - the article cited ascribed the warming to regional variation in the incidence of radiation, not to a net increase. Perhaps you should ask the editors for the pictures you so generously offered.

Balbulican, I think we can all agree that variations etc. aside, the Sun is responsible for the warming of Mars therefore, it must be responsible for the warming on Earth. Would this not at least explain how the Ice Ages came and went, due to natural fluctuations of the Suns energy and not SUV’s or Farting Dinosaurs?

[...] up by 0.6C, and it’s only up by 0.5C overall.Interesting. But of couse, I’m no scientist.h/t to The Politicpssst… don’t let the eco-facists know… by the way, I think that’s a great new nickname for them [...]

If nothing else, this blog entry can serve as an example of shoddy research skills.

“If nothing else, this blog entry can serve as an example of shoddy research skills.”

Damnit. This post must have snuck by the blind reviewers AND the editorial board!

Meanwhile, I think we can all agree that martian climate change deniers who claim that global warming can be attributed to space cow farting instead of to starship emissions are just plain being irresponsible.

    Agreed.

The Politic try to retail the same bit of nonsense about global warming on planet Earth being primarily sun-driven. Their evidence? A similar phenomenon appears to be occurring on Mars. However, on the very same day they makes these claims, an honest-to-goodness

Got something to say?
