Bert Brown, Triple E Senate, and the Stat of the Day

April 20, 2007 · By Tom Cerber

Commenting on Stephan Dion’s opposition to the appointment of Bert Brown to the Senate, and why his 2004 election has passed the best before date, Lorne Gunter offers up some interesting statistics:

Perhaps Mr. Dion should also think about this tidbit, which I didn’t think of until after the above column was filed (and after a colleague suggested it): In the 2006 federal election, all 28 Liberal candidates in Alberta received a combined total of 219,214 votes, nearly 100,000 fewer than Brown alone received in 2004. And in the provincial election in which Brown won his 312,041 votes, all 83 provincial Liberal candidates combined earned only 261,737, just 84% as many as Brown.
