IPCC Doom and Gloom - Ignoring Our Ability to Improve

April 9, 2007 · By Greg Farries

Iain Murray, from the Planet Gore blog at the National Review, outlines Indur Goklany’s disappointment in the doomsday scenario contained within the recent IPCC report:

One of the baffling things about the IPCC Working Group II document released on Friday is how much it ignores mankind’s ability to progress. Time after time it fails to take into account any increase in adaptive capacity as the world gets richer. Essentially, it assumes we spend all our money on iPods while our feet get wet.

Is Ian Murray related to Paul and Kirk Cameron and does he share their curious approach to research methodologies?

By the way, is this blog an affirmative action programme of some sort for people enrolled in “special education?”

Have you got something intelligent to add?

Sure, but not by me. I expect some reasonable discussion to take place. If Progressive has nothing intelligent to say, I’m going to call him on it.

    Would you not agree?

Are you going to hold everyone to that standard then? Aaron says stupid stuff all the time, and you never call him on it.

I see StageLeft/Balbulican is at it again, posting a deceptively “helpful” comment while really meaning to be disruptive in a futile attempt to discredit rational, realistic, moderate, non-hysterical folks like us.

My own comment for the post: indeed, the IPCC crooks and liars in white coats club unfortunately diminishes its own claims and belies its true, if hidden, agenda by being so inexplicably simplistic, by failing to make reasonable, workable, moderate, non-suspect scientific recommendations as to what realistically can be done, taking into account the state of current technology, growing energy requirements, political & legal constraints, etc. All they seem to want to do is scare the hell out of people and political leaders and hopefully cause a situation in which money is variously redistributed in their (likely) personal financial favor and in their hidden ideologies’ favor… without any guarantee whatsoever that such wealth redistribution will effect any greenhouse gas reductions whatsoever.

History will record the whole thing as a massive, failed socialist scam. And don’t forget who would benefit from “emissions credits” trading the most: China and Russia, both totalitarian, non-human-rights-respecting socialist regimes.

Plus that concept of “carbon neutrality”? One of the most laughable ideas to come from the loony left! Utterly ludicrous, wholly political gobbleddygook!

Just watch the whole thing collapse and be forgotten soon enough. That’s how these massive, conspiratorial socialist scare campaigns happen.

“I see StageLeft/Balbulican is at it again, posting a deceptively “helpful” comment while really meaning to be disruptive in a futile attempt to discredit rational, realistic, moderate, non-hysterical folks like us.”

Heh. Scenty…do you deliberately try for stupid with every post, or is it a natural gift?

I posted no comment, little one. That’s what we call a “trackback”.

  11. balbulican on April 11th, 2007 4:59 am [#]

By the way, you’re slipping. You forgot to work the Muslims into that last one.

  12. Wrightspot on April 11th, 2007 8:07 am [#]

In Sentinel’s posting some words run contrary to his rant, namely”reasonable, rational, realistic, moderate”.On the other hand,”crooks, liars, and simplistic” are words which seem to fit his philosophy.

  13. Canadian Sentinel on April 11th, 2007 1:54 pm [#]

That’s the best Balbulican has to offer? Hairsplitting? I can see self-promotion from a mile away, and that was clearly a posting in this comments thread (ok, perhaps we’ll have to add to the definition of “comment” to include posting a link to one’s own gobbleddygook) by Balbulican/StageLeft.

Calling a political/ideological opponent “stupid” is simplistic, btw. Then again, Balbulican is a leftist, and leftists are hypocritical. If I simply dismissed him as “stupid”, he’d rightly point out that that’s simplistic. Of course leftists believe they can practice double standards…

Wrightspot: if all you have to offer is nonsense, why waste your keystrokes thereupon?

  14. balbulican on April 11th, 2007 2:04 pm [#]

Sigh. I can see I am going to have to make it even simpler for my poor friend.

    Scenty: pay attention. Listen closely.

I didn’t “post” anything. A “trackback” happens automatically when I post something at Stageleft that contains a link to this site. Is that clearer? Do you understand now? Do I need to explain it again?

After that, I hardly think I need defend my use of the term “stupid”, don’t you agree?

  15. Canadian Sentinel on April 11th, 2007 7:47 pm [#]

    You posted a trackback.

Splitting hairs like the pompous socialist curmudgeon you are doesn’t make anyone think you’re smart.

And I know very well what a trackback is. I’ve used ‘em. Sometimes they’re manual, sometimes automatic. And, as far as I’m concerned, there’s nothing wrong with saying “post a trackback”, manual or automatic.

You may believe differently. But as I always say, everyone has the freedom of belief. I wouldn’t let anyone take that freedom away from me, so I wouldn’t take it away from you. Go ahead, believe one cannot use the words I have in place of being so bloody scrupulously specific as you so annoyingly insist. Geez! What a small mind some folks, especially leftists, have, eh?

Why the hell do you have to be so gosh-darned fussy, nitpicky and anal retentive, DB/”Balbulican”? Hmm… you do indeed bear analysis. Had I a goatee, I’d be a-stroking it now, analyzing your mysterious, mesmerizing moonbat psyche…

Time to sharpen your sword again. All that incessant hairsplitting is making the edge dull, much like yourself, DB.

Oh, as for your use of the word “stupid”, I’m sure you’ll use the word however you please. But simply using it is meaningless, as are most of the noises you leftists make… I mean, one could potentially detect more meaning from a bunch of chattering chimpanzees than from yourself and the misfits at StageLeft.

Again with the hypocrisy, btw, with your claiming to need no defence for being simplistic. Oh, and also with the delusion of being right. Typical of you folks. Why is it you ridicule my calling you or another a “poophead”, yet you’ll turn around, call me “stupid” and claim to not need to justify yourself in so doing? Double standard again!

    I see.

And so does everyone else. Except for the moonbats, naturally. They won’t “see”. And you’re one.

But if you want to tell yourself that folks think you’re brilliant and right and that I’m “stupid”, period, without you proving it, making the case, demonstrating it… then go ahead. If delusion is your god, then I’m happy for you. It apparently gives you comfort to tell yourself that stuff is so when it actually isn’t. Good for you, old bean. You found something that feels like it works!

Now please allow the nice big men in the white pajamas to accompany you to your new room. First, please put on the jacket with the straps… ok? Here, we’ll help you… good boy!

  16. balbulican on April 12th, 2007 4:47 am [#]

“…that I’m “stupid”, period, without you proving it, making the case, demonstrating it…”

Scenty, dear boy, I couldn’t possibly do a better job than you do, with every single posting.

  17. Canadian Sentinel on April 12th, 2007 3:28 pm [#]

Oh, btw, how’s your good friend “Bobby Fletcher”? Now, there’s a Chinese (actually, Taiwanese, but a CCP loyalist and hater of the Falun Gong) Communist spy… oh, yes. I really do know about him, too… and wonder why you’re in touch with him. Why are you so friendly with someone who believes so strongly in Communism, is a denier of organ harvesting in China… and who hates and spreads hatred of people just because of their religion? Who are you to be friendly with such a character? Call me whatever you want, I don’t care, but you’re a very suspicious individual, you know. I guess you also hate the Falun Gong (you’ll deny it, of course), deny the reality of organ harvesting (while dogmatically worshipping the big new cult of climate change fascism) and so on…

And how on earth can you do the stuff you claim to do on your professional website (not SL), with all the writing stuff, etc… if you spend pretty much all your time messing around on the blogosphere, spreading your drivel? Something doesn’t add up with you. Oh, I guess you have other sources of income… hmm…

Now, isn’t that better than simplistically calling someone “stupid” and claiming they demonstrate it well themselves?

Well, you didn’t prove my alleged “stupidity”, so don’t complain that I didn’t prove any of the above. In fact, I’ll say you demonstrated it well enough! And if you’re a “spy”, you’re the crappiest one I’ve ever heard of, so I’d go with “propagandist”, which is perhaps more apt also for your good buddy “Bobby Fletcher”, who sure gets around a lot and knows stuff he really shouldn’t, couldn’t, unless…

Oh, btw, I’m curious… are you at all Chinese? Hard to tell from your pictures, which aren’t particularly good. And the pic with the sunglasses standing next to the door… heh… ya look like Cliff Clavin, the annoying mailman on “Cheers”… not that it matters, but you sure got mad and rude at Jana when she wondered if you were your good pal Fletcher… guess she scared the poop out of you?

And I know you saw my post today on the imploding CCP…

P.S. don’t say I called you a “Chinese Commie spy” without proving it. You know it wasn’t me. You know very well who it was. And you fear her, as does Bobby Fletcher.

  18. balbulican on April 12th, 2007 3:36 pm [#]

Fascinating. I wonder if we could actually prod you over the edge into a full-scale psychotic episode.

(This “poop” fixation of yours…I hate to be indelicate, but were there toilet training issues in your youth? No need to be embarassed, I’m just wondering…)

  19. balbulican on April 12th, 2007 3:46 pm [#]

Scenty, my poor delusional fecal friend…I’m wondering if you missed Jana’s apology to me. I know you don’t read very much, very well, or very carefully, so you might have missed it. Here it is, posted at Stageleft:

    http://www.stageleft.info/2007.....inese-spy/

    “HI Balbulican,
Thank you for your statement that Falun Gong is good and that the communist regime is what it is - evil (my words).

You may think its funny I called you a spy but for that I’m truly sorry for any hurt or embarrassment I may have caused you. My deepest thanks for your honesty regarding this human rights calamity of which we are all involved in one way or another.”

Very gracious, I thought. Clearly a brighter bulb than…well, let’s not be uncharitable.

  20. Canadian Sentinel on April 12th, 2007 7:39 pm [#]

You rejected her apology. She told me. And it’s right there in the thread. Or did you forget?

Maybe in my constant stupidity and delusion, I made up your rejection?

Better go check! Oh, wait… were you expecting me to not read what you linked to? Tch, tch… Were you trying to be deceptive… again?

Nice guy you are. Methinks you hate Falun Gong practitioners. As does Charles Liu/Bobby Fletcher/other characters, as well as, certainly, the CCP. No wonder you were so contemptuous towards Jana. My, but the left can really prove what I say about them, can’t they? They occassionally lose their cool and show us their true form!

A gracious person would accept the sincere, friendly apology and let bygones be bygones. But no, you rejected her sincere apology so rudely. Shame on you. Bully!

I’m disappointed in you, DB. You showed your true face there. I believe you are really spooked.

BTW, your buddy “Charles Liu” IS under considerable scrutiny/investigation. He poses, amongst others, as “Bobby Fletcher”.

And he has slipped up. The U.S gov’t is now onto him. Guess the CCP doesn’t train its operatives very well. Then again, the CCP evildoers are moonbats, and moonbats are stupid and so extremely cocksure of themselves, convinced of their supremacy, to the extent that they overlook a lot of things… and that is their undoing.

He, Charles Liu, is very reasonably seen as a propagandist for the Chinese Communist Party. He’s not Chinese, btw. He’s actually Taiwanese. Boy, talk about an enemy of the Taiwanese state. Traitor.

Deriding my sense of humor will not discredit me.

I suggest you get a sense of humor. As it appears, you don’t have any. I wonder why. Sad. The CCP doesn’t have a sense of humor either, I bet.

Oooh… you must be getting a little antsy, no?

  21. Canadian Sentinel on April 12th, 2007 7:46 pm [#]

Just in case you erase your rejection:

Ah. So you accuse anonymous bloggers of espionage and lying based on your misinterpretation of their views as a favour to us.

Please don’t do me anymore favours.

(Funny, but you kept doing ME “favors” after I asked you to stop, so look who’s talking)

Dammit- what’s the matter with you? She apologized for her mistake. Where’s your sense of humanity, of decency?

You remind me of the CPP. I bet apologies mean nothing to those butchers, either. Piss ‘em off, they cut out your organs and sell ‘em for a million bucks or so.

Go ahead, talk about excrement if you want. It won’t change the truth.

  22. balbulican on April 12th, 2007 8:48 pm [#]

Heh. She was wrong, she acknowledged it and apologized. Which puts her a few notches ahead of you, my delusional friend. ;)

For those confused by Scenty’s apparent meltdown: I wrote a series of comments on Scenty’s site criticizing the Government of China. This seemed to confuse Scenty, as well as some odd person who accused me of being a spy for Communist China.

I pointed out to Scenty that everything I had written about China had been critical. He didn’t seem to understand (no surprise there), and ever since has been going on, as you see above.

If you want to read the entire hilarious exchange, I strongly encourage you to follow the link above in comment 19. If you have any lingering doubts about Scenty’s sanity, that will dispel them.

You really are nuts, aren’t you?

  24. Canadian Sentinel on April 13th, 2007 12:47 pm [#]

    Am I?

You know, the German government today is throwing all homeschoolers into mental institutions, deeming them “potentially insane” for daring to go against the fascist neoNazi regime in place today. You saw that post of mine, for sure.

Incredible, isn’t it, that the current Reich is keeping Hitler’s own law against homeschooling and using it to deem people “potentially insane” and arrest them to incarcerate them for psychiatric assessment? Did you do a post at SL denouncing the current German Reich for this? Sorry, I don’t know- most of your posts I find too boring and irrelevant, as well as anticonservative-propagandic, etc… so do forgive me. Well, did you do a post on that? How about on the CCP’s organ harvesting?

Are you arrogantly, unilaterally deeming me “definitely insane” as a cowardly attempt to dismiss everything I write?

You know, someone going by the moniker “Na” (haven’t seen ‘er in months), said that this is “medicalizing”.

I guess you medicalize all those who dare diss you?

Typical leftwing tactic. It also belies your intellectual laziness.

Oh, and, you lefty folks like to demand proof of everything nonleftists say… so will you prove your accusation of my being “nuts”? And you still haven’t proven, made the case, etc… your claim that I’m “stupid”.

You do realize that lots of folks are convinced, btw, that YOU are stupid and insane? I guess you want to medicalize us all, then?

    Too easy. Try harder.

  25. Canadian Sentinel on April 13th, 2007 12:50 pm [#]

Geez, what a pompous cream puff, that “Balbulican”.

  26. balbulican on April 13th, 2007 1:14 pm [#]

Scenty…and I say this kindly…you are simply not capable of rational discussion.

  27. Canadian Sentinel on April 14th, 2007 6:08 am [#]

Hey, Ballsy, when did I ever say I was always attempting to have “rational discourse” with YOU, of all people? Can you not tell the differnece between when I’m serious and when I’m messing with you? (You don’t know which it was in this thread, do you?)

    Look who’s “stupid” now.

As if you can necessarily tell the difference between rationality and irrationality. You cannot, or perhaps you can, and you are really spooked at what I know about you and your friend “Bobby Fletcher”/Charles Liu.

Sorry, no lessons to take from The Magnificient Balbulican, Master of Confusing Gobbleddygook. Go and choke your little clucker now, old chap.

And I say this with equal kindness, my good man.

  28. balbulican on April 14th, 2007 6:27 am [#]

“when did I ever say I was always attempting to have “rational discourse” with YOU, of all people?”

I’m simply noting that you are simply not capable of having a civil, rational discussion with someone who disagrees with you, Scenty. You can’t do it.

Shortly before you banned me, I challenged you on your site to have a civil discussion without the tirades and tantrums - a discussion based on the exchange of information and reasoned argument. You ran from that challenge like a gun-shy rabbit, with one of your long, trademark bleats about “taking no lessons from leftists”.

Well, the offer stands. I make it entirely confident in the knowledge that you will not take it up - becaused without the paranoid rants and long, rambling tirades, you have nothing to say.

Here’s a little challenge for you, Scenty.

    Prove me wrong.

Point me to a thread on any site - yours, mine, any site at all - where you engage intelligently with someone who disagrees with you, and where you hold a real, grown up discussion based on reason and information.

That should be pretty easy. Any site, anywhere.

Got something to say?
