Supporting Michael Ignatieff can be harmful to your career

I humbly apologize for the problems and embarrassment that I have caused…I also did not take into consideration the political stances that Mr. Ignatieff has on abortion and same sex legislation…I do not support same sex marriages, nor do I support any form of abortion.

Iggy also said he approved using Torture , but only if it was used fairly and not too severe.
If he seconded the nomination the only way you can do so is to be a member of the party.
Further complicationed by the statement that he wasn’t aware of the candidates stand on certain issues.
But he says he does not support any political party.
Which is it?
I don’t think the apology was necessary in the least. It is obvious that as a priest, he would tell his parishioners that abortion was a bad thing (sadly the Church seems rather incapable of nuancing positions) but that doesn’t mean that supporting a candidate who supports abortion rights is contradictory. The point of policy shouldn’t be to try to ban everything you disagree with. If you disagree with it don’t do it; I believe this is called self-control and direction. Rather than try to interfere in other peoples’ lives, live and regulate your own and, if you’re a priest, preach the values you see fit to your parish community.
I love how hypocritical conservatives are. Back off government except when it comes to enforcing catholic morals on every aspect of peoples’ lives.
Tom, where does it say anything about conservatives? Slow down on the Kool-Aid!
softtalk - didn’t use a big c did he? Plenty of conservative members of the LPC out there - many of them are Scarborough MPs!
softtalk:
I meant social conservatives mostly there. Take a pill.
Though I suppose some social conservatives could in theory support big government programs etc, today that generally doesn’t seems to be the case. They want a neo-conservative/classical liberal approach to government mixed with tradition catholic values enforced by the state. It’s those people to whom I refer.
Don’t worry softtalk,
Tom loves to go on wild tangents and proclaim the evils of both small c and large C conservatives. This thread is a prefect example of his inability to see beyond his disdain of anything conservative.
Tom, if you can find any reference to hypocritical conservative attitudes (or how conservatives “want to enforcing catholic morals on every aspect of peoples’ lives”) in Aaron’s post, I’ll love to hear them.
