Ben Mulroney to run for CPC in Papineau
April 1, 2007 · By Joel
I am less than impressed by news that Ben Mulroney is going to run against Justin Trudeau in the Quebec riding of Papineau.
First, I’ve always found the Liberals’ swooning over an unemployed school teacher who just happens to be named Trudeau, entirely ridiculous. And, from what I’ve seen, Justin Trudeau has ten times the philosophical depth of Ben Mulroney.
Second, this is what I wrote in the summer of 2005 after watching Ben Mulroney host the Live 8 (Aid for Africa) concert:
Finally, watching CTV’s highlights of the concerts I got to watch Ben Mulroney, the son of the champion of the Free Trade Agreement, swooning over “people taking up the cause of poverty” which, as can be seen at the official websiteincludes demands for old-school protectionism, the erecting of trade barriers, and the retreat of globalization’s enriching spread. One of the primary reasons that Africa is still so poor is that it has not been given much exposure to globalization. The solution proposed by Geldof and company is akin to taking a torch to an already burning house.
Ben Mulroney doesn’t have half the conservative credentials of his father. And his father was a piss-poor conservative.
This is a bad idea.
UPDATE: And, it appears I’ve been had. This will teach me to blog without coffee, and without checking the date in early spring.

have been to report that he’s running in some riding called L’autre Ville de Faux. Joel wasn’t the only one to begin his day with a case of the “gotchas”. As a good time was had by all, a few were “had” by a headline. … good times. UPDATE: Dave commented on Joel’s post the very clever and ambitious hoodwink delivered by National Newswatch. I, myself, had completely overlooked the giveaway in the browser address bar because of the detailing in the page, itself, right down to the ctv icon.
“And, from what I’ve seen, Justin Trudeau has ten times the philosophical depth of Ben Mulroney.”
The you have not seen much. And, quite frankly, any average Canadian has ten times the philosophical depth of Justin.
Easy now boys. I have a feeling this is an April fools joke. After all, according to CPC rules, Harper can’t parachute in a candidate.
This must be an April Fools joke. Look closely at the URL…

The article is not at ctv.ca!
April Fools!! ;-)
You got me.
I called my husband into the computer room with “LISTEN TO THIS!,” and read him the Ben Mulroney running against Justin Trudeau piece.
All he said was, “Well, I wouldn’t vote for either of them.”
My stupid.
lol! Never trust anything from MSM on April 1st.
Just April 1, Joanne?
been around the block: I’d have to agree with your husband.
So far, only Conservatives have been taking in by this.
Why am I not surprised? Too bad “gullible” isn’t in the dictionary; otherwise CONS could find out what it means.
