The Greenhouse and the Garden of Eden

April 30, 2007 · By Shane Edwards

Who knew? Elizabeth May, Green Party leader, preaching a sermon on the environment and Jesus! (Hat tip to the inestimable Small Dead Animals)

It is interesting to see the intersection of faith and environmentalism coming to light in the media. I find it fascinating that the newspaper didn’t slander her beliefs in any way, as long as she stuck to the envirofascist script.

However, for those of you who keep count, this means that Elizabeth May:

  • believes in the Garden of Eden
  • believes that we all descended from one man and one woman
  • believes that we were all created, that God engineered the universe
  • believes that God is a MAN(!)

Wow. If Harper preached a sermon like this, he would be impeached (if you can do that in Canada). We don’t want any nutcase misogynist young-earth creationists in our government!

Borrowing a quote she said was made by a foreign dignitary about Prime Minister Stephen Harper, May said his stance on climate change “represents a grievance worse than Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement of the Nazis.”

2 points on this statement:

  1. I thought churches weren’t allowed to express political opinions. Isn’t this kind of a condemnation of a sitting Prime Minister grounds to revoke the charitable status of the church? Or does that only apply to Conservative churches who condemn leftists?
  2. Look at that. a Nazi comment. Ms. May, whether you know it or not, you just lost.

Global Warming on Mars – Quick Gore, Grab Your Camera!

April 30, 2007 · By Greg Farries

Scientists from Nasa say that the planet Mars has warmed rapidly since the 1970s.

Mars is being hit by rapid climate change and it is happening so fast that the red planet could lose its southern ice cap, writes Jonathan Leake.

Scientists from Nasa say that Mars has warmed by about 0.5C since the 1970s. This is similar to the warming experienced on Earth over approximately the same period.

The Soulforce Equality Ride Rides Again!

April 30, 2007 · By Aaron Unruh

Ten gay rights protesters, members of the (I’m not making this up) Soulforce Equality Ride, were recently arrested during an attempt to intimidate students at a Christian University:

The activists, who were later released, were among 50 members of the group Soulforce Equality Riders, which is on a national tour to promote gay rights at the nation’s conservative Christian universities and military academies.

More on the Soulforce Equality Ride:

In 2006, during the inaugural Equality Ride, participants traveled to nineteen schools and engaged students, faculty, and administrators in conversation about the damaging effects of homophobic doctrine, the false notion that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender identities are sick and sinful…Two buses are taking the group on two distinct routes around the country in creative pursuit of social justice. In doing so, they are empowered to change countless lives. Love liberates the oppressed, redeems the lost, and resurrects the spirit.

Justin Trudeau: Diva on a Dime

April 30, 2007 · By Aaron Unruh

Tantrum averted. Phew. Maggie won’t have to go out and buy a big lollipop.

How sad. We lose one Belinda and gain another.

You want to laugh? Check out the picture at the top of the CTV hagiography of Justin. Was the intention to select an outfit so metro that it would immediately contrast with the working class attire of the riding’s citizens?

Dion sides with American over a Canadian Minister

April 30, 2007 · By Aaron Unruh

First the Taliban, now Al Gore.

Not to conform my posts to Tory talking points, but would a real leader condone and approve of any foreigner, let alone an American, meddling in Canada’s internal affairs in this manner?

If Harper delivered a speech on Canadian autonomy, Dion would come out in favour of Manifest Destiny.

John Edwards: The Morality of an Ambulance Chaser

April 28, 2007 · By Aaron Unruh

A laugh-out-loud comment from Kate O’Beirne on the recent democratic debate:

Looong pause before John Edwards could come up with his “moral leader.”

Too bad that he didn’t say “Jan Schlichtmann”.

Gay Marriage in New York. Or not. Well, maybe…..

April 28, 2007 · By Aaron Unruh

Gay marriage may be coming to the state of New York:

Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer, following through on a campaign pledge, unveiled a bill Friday to legalize gay marriage in New York.

Or not. Spitzer introduced the bill knowing full well that it would never be introduced into law:

“I do not think there is a realistic shot that it gets passed…”

How outrageous! Gay rights lobbyists were on hand to denounce Spitzer for playing politics with their fundamental human rights. Or not:

“Today is a watershed moment in our community’s struggle to win the freedom to marry in New York,” said Alan Van Capelle, executive director of the Empire State Pride Agenda, New York’s largest homosexual rights advocacy group.

And that concludes another episode of Ridiculous Politicians and Lobbyists Maneuvering Over Ridiculous Issues.

Meanwhile: Gay hobbits can’t get married in Middle Earth(!).

Al Gore: Messing with Minister Baird

April 28, 2007 · By Aaron Unruh

What was the environmental record of everyone’s favourite environmentalist like when he was vice-president anyway? Turns out that the Conservatives’ current plan will do more to reduce emissions than the Clinton-Gore administration ever did:

“It is difficult to accept criticism from someone who preaches about climate change, but who never submitted the Kyoto Protocol to a vote in the United States Senate (and) who never did as much as Canada is now doing to fight climate change during eight years in office.”

Christian/Islamic Fundamentalists Two Sides of the Same Coin? Think Again

April 27, 2007 · By George Freeman

Ted Byfield has a good article, There’s No Reason – Where do supposedly rationalist liberals get the demonstrably absurd idea that Christians are scary like radical Muslims?, in the Western Standard for May 7, 2007. His assessment is sound:

We stand for reason against faith, claims the liberal left. Do they, now? Perhaps they should re-examine their reasoning here. All those prone to terrorism are devout believers in God, they say. Christian “fundamentalists” are devout believers in God. Therefore Christian fundamentalists are prone to terrorism. In logic, I think this is called the “first fallacy.” It’s like saying, “All cats are animals. My dog is an animal. Therefore my dog is a cat.” In truth, liberals have at best an extremely shaky hold on reason. Maybe they should try faith instead.

Byfield cites a good exchange—a succinct comparison—in a recent radio interview:

[As compared to the odd shooting of an abortionist, there is] the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, the nightclub in Bali, the theatre in Moscow, the school in Chechnya, the slaughter in Nigeria over a beauty contest—one death against thousands.

And if this isn’t enough of an obvious lack of equivalence, read about the gruesome torture and slaughter of Christian missionaries in Turkey:

According to the Washington-DC based human rights group International Christian Concern, the three were put through a horrific ordeal which included multiple stabbings before finally being killed.

An ICC statement tells: “As difficult and sorrowful as it is to learn more, we believe that we must expose the truly hellish nature of this attack for what it is.” ……

ICC described the horrific ordeal in excruciating detail, which will only moderately be described in this report.

“They arrived, and reportedly, after Necati read a chapter from the Bible the assault began. The young men tied Ugur, Necati, and Tilman’s hands and feet to chairs as they videoed their work on their cellphones. What followed in the next three hours is beyond belief,” an ICC release has said.

ICC then continued to describe the nature of the torture, which included disembowelment, emasculation, and the slicing open of various orifices.

“Tilman was stabbed 156 times, Necati 99 times and Ugur’s stabs were too numerous to count. Finally, their throats were sliced from ear to ear, heads practically decapitated,” ICC reports.

In a letter from the church of these missionaries, the torture is described in even more gruesome detail:

[Details of the torture--

* Tilman was stabbed 156 times, Necati 99 times and Ugur’s stabs were too numerous to count. They were disemboweled, and their intestines sliced up in front of their eyes. They were emasculated and watched as those body parts were destroyed. Fingers were chopped off, their noses and mouths and anuses were sliced open. Possibly the worst part was watching as their brothers were likewise tortured. Finally, their throats were sliced from ear to ear, heads practically decapitated.]

Secular progressives are off their rocker with such glib comparison!

Lord Black: one of a kind scrapper

April 27, 2007 · By George Freeman

Any of you wanting a good daily read, both interesting and funny, check out Mark Steyn’s coverage of Conrad Black’s trial, here.

For the sake of notable quotes, here’s why I hope Lord Black comes out victorious; overcoming his accusers so he can keep making public statements like this:

[Trudeau's] incitement of ethnic, occupational, regional, and sexual groups debased public policy and ultimately almost bankrupted the country. He, more than anyone, turned Canada into a people of whining politically conformist welfare addicts.
–Conrad Black, A Life in Progress (Toronto: Key Porter Books, 1993), p.113.

Pierre Trudeau’s book Memoirs is a monument to human vanity that refreshes the reader’s memory about all Trudeau’s tendencies to glibness, faddishness, pretension, and the affected posturing of the inherited-money limousine liberal…
–Conrad Black, The Financial Post, February 26, 1994.

“I do not at all have the mind of a bully… in my mind bullies are intolerant of contrary opinion, domineering and rather cowardly. I would hope that none of those terms could be fairly used in describing me.”

On Canada’s U.N. ambassador, Stephen Lewis, in 1987: “His clangorous tambourine-rattling on behalf of the United Nations…”
