Cherniak-Dion Conference Call
March 28, 2007 · By Joel
So Dion held a conference call with a number of Liberal bloggers as selected by Jason Cherniak. Apparently, a list of those bloggers was posted by Cherniak then removed. Anyone happen to get a screen-cap of those names?
If so, I think Dion might soon find cause to regret this decision. Liberal bloggers have a tendency to stick their foots in their mouths (as do some Blogging Tories — I don’t mean this as a partisan slur), and Dion’s now foolishly linked himself rather closely to the next dumb comment.
For the record, I don’t think this practice of trying to tar candidates/parties with online comments made by people who may only be tangentially related to the party/candidate is a good thing. But it’s also not going away.

no screen cap but I know for sure Michelle from Michelle’s world and a BC’er in Toronto were on the list

The TDH guy wasn’t on it. I know because he’s posted an entire screed justifying why he wasn’t included.
Little boys at play, they are.
BTW, why wasn’t Garth in on the call? He’s the most prominent blogging Liberal there is.
Think about it. Last year Gene Parks and Carole Jamieson tried t make a big deal out of the BTs for breaking Elec Can rules. Of course this was nonsense - there are absolutely no ties between the BTs as a group and the CPC (although some members might have formal ties through employment or volunteership).
Now, the Libs are daring to invite BigCityLib and similars publicly into their nest.
I can’t wait to expose a member of the Liblogs as a formal part of LPOC campaign team when they say something really stupid. Screen shots are filed away.
Look what happened when the NDP let their party remain attached to MyBlahg….
Hopefully, the same thing will happen to the Liberals. Dion saw how effective Dumont used the internet and hopes it will work for him.
Unfortunately, he is up against a formidable foe in that the BT have become a force that just keeps digging up dirt against the Liberals at every turn.
Hang on to your hats - it’s going to be a bumpy ride!

Tuesday afternoon, the Liberal Party of Canada set up a conference call with a number of bloggers. The speakers included:
Mark Marissen - Campaign Co-Chair
Jamie Carroll - LPC National Director
Mike Girardin - LPC webmaster
Denise Brunsdon - YLC executive member
Kris Ade - OLO Strategic Communications
For this call, a long list of bloggers were invited:
Michelle Oliel
Scott Tribe
Cerberus
Jeff Jedras
The Sir Robert Bond Papers
Calgary Grit
A View from the Left
Tonton Coquillage
Rolling Back the Tide of Extremism, One Post at a Time
Apply-Liberally
Rob’s Random Thoughts
Nottawa
Daveberta
Gaultlet.ca
Red Tory
The Dan Report
Woman at Mile 0
Note that it does state that of those invited, not all participated. Near as I can tell, there was no list of who was a participant.
So now these guys go from unofficial Liberal schills to official Liberal schills… And?
Les: The fact that they’re now official Liberal shills means that the next time they screw up, Dion wears a large portion of it.
nakedmoonbats: Nicely done. Thanks.
I remember Carol Jamieson (I don’t even recall who she was anymore) coming to my old political blog and blaming me for being a Tory schill on the take. I thought it was hilarious. Like anyone on the CPC payroll would curse as much as me. I wasn’t and I didn’t take my queues from the party machine.
I think if I were a liblog’er I’d be more concerned with my credibility being questioned everytime I supported a Liberal plan of action than Dion actually regulating the liblog sphere or this becoming a hazzard to his already lame duck leadership.
I can’t see the leader of the party being held accountable for some online loon especially when these guys (the LPC) routinely fall into shit and come out smelling like roses.
At first glance the conference call looks like a ‘HA!!” but really is a *meh* when you consider the limited implications.
