Her companion…ducked into a nearby alley and returned with an eight-foot length of construction rebar, which he drove through Mintus’ head

His assailant fled, and Fanning said police are looking for Jairo Barrientos, 21, a Honduran national who has applied for refugee status in Canada. He has a number of drug-related convictions in the western U.S.

He shouldn’t even have to apply….just come to Canada and feel secure in the knowledge that we would never expect anyone to face justice in his home country(sarcasm intended). I see no reason whatsoever why this individual should ever be allowed to set foot in Canada. His record would appear to speak for itself.

I read the piece - aside from the horrific proofreading done in a short article (2 spelling errors in a major national newspaper? What are these hacks - bloggers?), you have an idiot cussing a blue streak in front of children. The mother tells him to cool his mouth. The idiot throws her to the ground in a puddle. It is at this stage the other guy attacks the idiot with a rebar.

Yes, it was a complete overreaction. However, I’d like the message to go out as well: don’t swear in front of children, ya freakin idiots!

I should have read the article before making a comment based on only part of the story. I would have known he was already in this country. However, no matter what the provocation (and in this case the victim appears to have been asking for trouble), it doesn’t change my opinion - refugee status should not be granted.

Got something to say?
