Dan Savage: Circle the Prada!
March 15, 2007 · By Aaron Unruh
“The country has come to accept stereotypical gay men — sardonic fellows with fussy hair who live in over-decorated apartments with a striped sofa and a small weird dog and who worship campy performers and go in for flamboyance now and then themselves. If they want to be accepted as couples and daddies, however, the flamboyance may have to be brought under control. Parents are supposed to stand in back and not wear chartreuse pants and black polka-dot shirts. That’s for the kids. It’s their show.”
Kathy and Mark link to the fabulous counter-attack from Andrew Sullivan and Dan Savage. But neither quote the actual contents of Savage’s wildly successful attempt to refute unfounded stereotypes about overly emotional gay men:
Fuck Garrison Keilor…Oh. My. God…Oh. My. God…What an asshole. Asshole, asshole, asshole…if I seem angry, you fucking motherfucker, it’s because I am….
Well, mission accomplished.
Commenter Tim:
The piece reads like a teenage girl passing angry notes in Algebra class.
Or a petulent grown man reacting to the news that his section 15 status doesn’t give him a free pass from criticism.
