Reform, Reform, Reform: What has Spooked Garth Turner?
March 9, 2007 · By Greg Farries
It looks like the Garth Turner is being spooked by scary visions of the old Reform Party. Looking through his weblog archives, one is struck by the long tirade of insults leveled at the Reform Party,
I dislike Reformers, and have since that movement flowered almost two decades ago. I dislike the intolerance, narrowness, religiosity and smug self-righteousness of Reform.

To me Reform is a doomed political movement based on exclusion and an expired reality which would be dust right now if the Reform leader (that would be PMSH) had not climbed into the wool of the PC party. And, yeah, this is deep in my seat.
[...]
My conclusion, reached reluctantly, is that Mr. Harper represents a doctrinaire Reform Party point of view that can be seen in his courting of the religious right, in dismantling gun control legislation, in voting to overturn same-sex marriage, in his bungling of the environment file and his arrogant flip-flop on the taxation of income trusts.

And in between I was appalled to discover that the legendary intolerance and narrow views of the Reform Party were at the heart of the new Conservative party, while the prairie populism, respect for the grassroots and empowerment that Preston Manning had stood for had vanished.

However, I wouldn’t be too discouraged by Garth’s harsh language, using the word, “Reform” to scare voters is something he condemned the Liberals for doing against him in 2005,
So, the Liberal attack is just as I had forecast it would be here weeks and weeks ago. He will try to scare people by using the “Reform†word; then he will try to tie to me Brian Mulroney, when that does not work; and then he’ll fabricate “facts†about how Conservatives can’t manage the economy. Paul Martin set the tone for that this morning outside Rideau Hall, when he said that, under Liberals, Canada has gone from being a “pauper to a powerhouse.’[Emphasis mine]

Hmmmmm, let`s see. Garth gets his ass kicked in 1993. Sits it out for the next decade. Gets elected on Harper`s coat-tails. Now thinks he will get elected on Dion`s coat-tails. Should be fun to watch.
Garth The Mole is going to have a difficult time getting re-elected.The town hall meeting attendees are about the extent of his support. Most constituents are fed up with his antics. He is looked at as more of the Halton Hills,Caledon Village idiot these days.
The ironic part of his statement is that his EA Esther and chief worker bee Charlie were both reformers and followed him to independence and continued walking the plank with him as a liberal.
They are all apparantly against the evil reformers after spending so many years being reformers and working in the riding to merge the two parties.
Everyone has their price.
Check out THIS comment from that day.
Salvage: It is truly stunning how you can hang around this site daily, read all the posts, and still give us this mindless Lib-speak drivel. Get used to it: the Reform party is stone cold dead. My candidacy speaks to where this party sits today. Yes, the sum of all Liberal fears is a centrist, modern, moderate and principled Conservative Party, which is exactly what they now face.  Garth
