Dion Talks the Talk, Campbell Walks the Walk

February 14, 2007 · By

Let’s keep the federal Liberal Party’s abysmal environmental record in mind as we reflect upon the irony that a western right-winger is about to make his province the greenest juristiction in North America.

No surprise. We already knew that if you want real action on the environment, you need a conservative to do it:

Former prime minister Brian Mulroney was praised Thursday night as Canada’s greenest prime minister

But by all means, go Grit if you want alot of talk and no action.

The environment isn’t a big issue?

Actually, since 2005 when he lost a lot of middle ground voters to the NDP, Campbell has repositioned himself as a centre liberal, increasing spending, trying to be more compassionate socially, making huge deals with unions, and now environmental sustainability. Second, don’t forget that a great deal of Campbell’s BC Liberal organization were working for Dion: Marrisen, Murray, Clark, etc. Finally, while it is nice to see Campbell come out with a position, it unfortunately does not seem to have short term targets. Thus it repeats the same mistake with the Conservative in that there is no accountability that the measures are actually working until the current government is long out of power.

Got something to say? (Read the rules first)
