Dion, “I’m Just Pointing Out the Obvious - Harper’s Fat!”
February 1, 2007 · By Greg Farries
Some might consider Dion’s recent comments about Harper’s weight as “just pointing out the obvious,” but personally I find it kind of tacky. After the recent buffalo under the arm joke (and the fallout that accompanied it), one has to wonder whether our politicians have any real tact. Steve Janke has the transcript:
BOUDREAU: Dion insists he won’t stoop that low [and attack Stephen Harper personally].
DION: Not this negative ads, not my style.
BOUDREAU: But he is not above taking shots at his main opponent.
DION: We have changed the bedroom and the exercise room. My successor, maybe Mr. Harper will have the, the opportunity to lose his overweight now because we have this exercise room.
BOUDREAU: A not-so-subtle hint that Dion hopes to soon be leaving Stornaway to trade places with the Prime Minister. In Ottawa, this is Global National’s Hannah Boudreau reporting.
UPDATE:: The Tories are not pleased…
CalgaryGrit isn’t upset that Dion called Harper fat, he’s upset the joke was so bad. He and a few others suggest their own one liners.

Dion wants to criticize Harper’s weight? Dion’s a scrawny little nerdling.
Dion manages to get his foot out of his mouth just long enough to replace it with his other one.
Smart move, though! Now we’re talking about Dion talking about Harper … with muchos free airtime for Dion! Hmmm…
Over and above comes Kyoto. Oh my! Not only is Harper, well, “not in very good shape” but he’s also a … you know …
Negative ads, you say? Where?
Dion is anorexic nerdy looking wuss who can’t speak english , but he does a great job waiving his hands.
Of course calgarygrit et al are relishing in this childish bullsh*t,despite the fact their hypocrisy meters are redlining.
But then, the blogosphere is full of myopic partisan twits who think politics is nothing more than a game where you cheer on your own team and hate your opponents,no matter what the facts.
Sigh….
Is calling someone fat (truthfully) the same as calling a woman a dog? Spare me the indignation.
I doubt Dion was trying to insult Harper, remember the ‘dead dog’ joke (and his imaginary friend)? Dion’s sense of humor is….strange. to say the least.
People who are truly fat or ugly by objective measures don’t necessarily enjoy being reminded. Once you climb on the PC bandwagon, you can’t insult anyone’s basic human dignity for any reason, not just the reasons you currently find politically convenient, without being a hypocrite. Those of us who aren’t PC, can carry on making stupid remarks and being indifferent to stupid remarks made by others.
Stephane Dion is beginning to make Jean Chretien look like a master of English oratory.
There are too many fat asses out their and they all should loose some damn weight lest they have a heart attack soon.
Yes, Prime Minister Harper is a heavy weight, intellectually as well as physically.
Maybe Dion could use some weight training to get a little muscle tone. Dion is low watt as well as low fat.
No different from the mudslinging on the opposing sides.
