Politicians Sucking Up to the Christian Right

So I thought to myself, “What sort of topic would most please my fans?” In response, here is that great aggravator of sophisticated left-wingers the developed world over:
In a recent radio interview, Dobson said he couldn’t support McCain’s bid for the GOP presidential nomination under any circumstances.
He said McCain didn’t have a record of supporting “traditional marriage values,” adding, “I have prayed we won’t get stuck with him.”
Naturally, McCain is back-peddling. And he’s not the only one:
Romney has veered to the right on key social issues since announcing his candidacy.
When he was wooing Massachusetts voters in 2002, Romney said he supported Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, and promised not to change the state’s abortion policies.
Now that he’s running for president, Romney has altered his position, saying he’s personally opposed to abortion…
Candidates are rushing to make sure their moral compasses line up with those of the Christian Right leaders.
Not to worry, though. I’m sure that Barack Obama can beat any Republican candidate. Just like he beat Jack Ryan, that fan-tabulous candidate.

* And the man that committeth adultery with another man’s wife, . . . the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death (Leviticus 20:10).
* For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death (Leviticus 20:9).
* Moreover ye shall eat no manner of blood, whether it be of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings. Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people (Leviticus 11:26-27).
* Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you (Leviticus 11:12).
*IF A MAN LIES WITH A MAN AS ONE LIES WITH A WOMAN, BOTH OF THEM HAVE DONE WHAT IS DETESTABLE. THEY MUST BE PUT TO DEATH; THEIR BLOOD WILL BE ON THEIR HANDS.
(LEVITICUS 20:13)
Ooooh, Bible verses! Just in time for Sunday School! Scott must teach a class.
How long have you been vegetarian?
Those punishments were meant for a Jewish state ruled by Jewish law.
People who cite verses like that don’t get it.
Good point Suzanne!
Clearly Scott has yet to get to the New Testament.
Admittedly, I don’t get it.
There needs to be some sort of written guide to help identify which of the bible teachings can be ignored to suit our beliefs, and which ones are undeniable to all when they would appear to support them.
