So what is Gore Vidal up to these days?

Recently the New Yorker reported on an event held at the Mary Boone art galley in Manhattan where “artists, collectors, literati, and other art world regulars mingled seamlessly with adult-movie producers and directors and quite a few of the performers themselves.” The purpose of the event was to celebrate the publication of the book “XXX: Porn Star Portraits.” The pictures in the book are accompanied by appreciative essays by leading figures on the left like Gore Vidal, John Waters, and Salman Rushdie.

Guess what? A lot of people like porn. The rest are probably in denial. People like sex otherwise the species would just die out.
“Guess what? A lot of people like porn.”
But “alot of people,” let alone alot of prominent politicians, don’t write appreciative treatises on porn.
And what’s wrong with it if they decide to?
Maybe The Politic should start posting its own “appreciative essays” on pornography:
“The escapist delights of pornography, absent the nasty side effects of drugs, should not be underrated. Not only can pornography be good for coping with stress, it affords one the pursuit of getting it on with a different woman every night without the hassle of dinner, chit chat, and, God forbid, commitment. To that end, porn stars do a real public service inspiring our youth to be uninspired, except that is for any glimpse of enlarged anatomical endowments and over-hyped ecstasy. …”
While I don’t get the Al Gore reference, I’m sure this something he could really get behind: “Don’t just sit there, get laid: How Environmentalist Porn Stars Save Trees and Fight Global Warming through Pro-Active Humping on Logging Roads.”
“And what’s wrong with it if they decide to?”
Notice this post’s categorization in “amusing”? Take a chill pill, man.
Hopefully, former politician Paul Martin won’t be writing any appreciative essays on porn. “Oh porn, how do I love thee?”
I’m missing the joke here I guess.
When did Gore Vidal become a politician?
And what does it have to do with Al Gore?
Seriously, what’s the bit about Al Gore?
Actually, you caught me in a mistake. I read Gore Vidal as Al Gore. The article makes more sense now given Vidal’s history, but is still pretty funny.
I’m just pleased that some incredibly subtle and clever epithet didn’t slip me by.
