Same-Sex Marriage: Revolution in Parenthood, Part 2

September 27, 2006 · By Tom Cerber

The Globe and Mail reports on an Ontario court case involving a lesbian couple who want one of the partners named as a legal parent - the 3rd parent:

The application, if allowed, would be believed to mark the first time in Canada a child would legally have more than two parents, and would fundamentally change the definition of the word “family.”

For problems with 3-parent arrangements, see Same-Sex Marriage: Revolution in Parenthood. On polygamy and other complications deriving from same-sex marriage, see here and here.

God, let us redefine morality and in doing so let us redefine what I can judge as wrong or right, and so on. Let’s do it, let’s just get it over with. :: Jumping the Broom The High Places with …Right out of Existence… The Politic with Same-Sex Marriage: Revolution in Parenthood, Part 2 Relapsed Catholic with “Let us just get it over with and beat that trail down all the way to Gomorrah”

Even before same-sex marriage was legal, it was already possible for kids to have up to 4 parents, 2 real parents and 2 step-parents. Was there ever a case where one step-parent wanted to apply for status as the 3rd legal parent, or even to be the 2nd legal parent at the expense of the other real parent?

Oh. Heh. Just read the preceding post. Didn’t realize that “legal parent” replaced “new parent.”

Got something to say?
