The Gun Registry didn’t save Anastacia DeSousa
September 14, 2006 · By Peter Rempel
Yesterday’s shootings have provoked fresh defenses of the gun registry, including one on this site from Scott Tribe:
Gun control laws and the national gun registry wont guarantee ends to acts like Dawson College.. but it sure does reduce the chances of it.
It certainly does. Police can use the gun registry to determine whether a person who is on a shooting rampage does indeed own a registered firearm, and act accordingly upon arriving at the scene. “Be extra careful, boys. That guy shooting into the crowd owns a gun.”
It gets better. Scott approvingly quotes Gilles Duceppe:
As Gilles Duceppes said, car accidents happpen all the time.. yet we dont demand we stop people from getting ddriver licenses because of their “inability†stop all car accidents.
Seriously, I think we should buy airships and fly them at treetop level near intersections so that police can see whether bald men driving convertibles are more or less likely to cause accidents. Sure, it won’t stop all accidents. But hell, you shouldn’t demand that we get rid of those blimps because of their “inability” to stop all car accidents. Get real!
But if it won’t make a whit of difference, then get rid of it. The shooter yesterday was carrying semi-automatic rifles. The registry didn’t do a damn thing to prevent this and it won’t do a damn thing to prevent another similar tragedy, Scott’s disingenuous mewlings to the contrary notwithstanding. It should still be scrapped.

lunch hour hit-and-run accident in Scarborough sent six young children to hospital with minor injuries today after a vehicle jumped a curb in front of a public school. Any more than a gun registry can prevent what happened at Dawson College yesterday. The Gun Registry didn’t save Anastacia DeSousa rants a Blogging Tory stating the obvious. Well duh. So if I follow the logic of the blathering Rightwhingers we should get rid of driver licenses and car registration too. See: Right Whing Whines About Gun Registry
the gun registry is like a lock. it only works for honest people. if anybody thinks registering guns will stop this kind of thing, they’re nuts, and maybe living in a cave. do they honestly think that the criminals will register theirs?

The Liberals will try to tell you that the billion dollar Farmer Bob Rifle Registry saves lives.
That’s just not true.
Here’s the real reason homicide rates in big Canadian cities aren’t through the roof.
