Mounties Always Get Their Man

Maybe a little immature but a bit of a laugh.

A nice story out of Nova Scotia on the RCMP’s first gay nuptials; a storied love affair coming to the “ultimate” form of commitment this weekend at the Rodd Grand Hotel—only so ultimate as divorce laws are lenient. RCMP spokesman, Sgt. Skidmore, had nothing but praise for the couple, noting how this demonstrates that the force includes every sector of society. And the new bride-to-be agreed: “Const. Tree said being a Mountie was always his goal.”

I think this takes balls, actually… Good for them!

Asked if the publicity about their marriage will bring derision on them, Const. Tree said Mounties have thick skin.

“That’s nothing new. People insult you all the time.

“Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, and I don’t have a problem if people have that opinion as long as they keep it within the proper realm.”

He said their decision to marry is entirely for themselves, but they do hope it helps change public perceptions about homosexuality.

There were differing opinions on the streets of Meteghan on Wednesday.

Two women who did not give their names said they oppose same-sex marriage.

A regular churchgoer, Gerald Deveau, 59, said the men can do as they please.

“It’s their business. What you do in your home is up to you.”

Dwayne Beck, 23, also isn’t bothered and is comfortable with gay, married cops.

“It’s just their choice as men,” he said.

Notice how those opposed didn’t want their names mentioned. That is the only thing I found “amusing” about this article.

Yeah, what cowards. Not attaching their names to criticisms of two RCMP officers. Especially considering this quote:

““Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, and I don’t have a problem if people have that opinion as long as they keep it within the proper realm.â€?”

In other words: Keep your dissenting comments to yourselves, close-minded assholes.

    Well said Rempel.

I’d be interested to know what the “proper realm” constitutes, especially considering the contrariness of gay marriage to common sense. Apparently running a news story on this RCMP first is rightly to be celebrated in a public exposé. But never mind anyone who points out the obvious, that two men can’t marry, in reality. They should mind the “proper realm”, which I’m guessing is keeping their reasonableness hushed up.

This story is comical in a few respects. First, the absurdity of what these two dudes explain themselves to be doing. [What an ultimate form of commitment! Especially so considering they will never be able to father children or face the challenges of intimately getting on with the opposite sex, not to mention the fact that human mortality makes it all meaningless anyway.] And second, for those who appreciate how language orders reality, how the language used in this story plays on innuendo, intentionally or not.

Names are probably left blank since a ‘contrary’ opinion to this sort of thing is apparently amounting to a hate crime nowadays.

Got something to say?
