Ian Brodie: The Liberals’ Latest Smear
May 10, 2006 · By Peter Rempel
It should be no suprise that the Liberal opposition is willing to engage in a drive-by smear against an advisor with no means to defend himself:
Justice Minister Vic Toews, Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day, PMO chief of staff Ian Brodie -even the Prime Minister himself- have also expressed a deep suspicion of the Supreme Court in the past. In fact, much of the Conservative government’s policy is guided by the right-wing “Calgary School of thought, which is highly critical of Canada’s judiciary and Charter jurisprudence.
The reference to Brodie is a reference to this. Friends of The Court is essentially a book about the Supreme Court’s evolving attitude toward interveners. It’s something called an “academic book.” But no matter; it and, by extension, Brodie can be dishonestly smeared by Liberals who have never read the book.
