Zing!: MacMillan on Travers
April 16, 2006 · By Peter Rempel
Here:
The word “choice” is not considered a “euphanism” when it comes to the question of abortion policy - so, why does Travers attempt to discredit choice when the issue is child care or health care?
Liberal Shangri-La: Women have control over their own uteruses but no say whatsoever over how their children are cared for.

Liberal choice is only free choice when you chose as they and the Liberal state would. Interestingly, Mussolini thought about the same when it came to life in a fascist state: freedom is to do the will of the state.
My simplistic definition of a liberal is
one who decides who gets to join the club and then works toward giving them unlimited rights.
The last time I checked, the Government of Canada did give women the choice about how to care for their children by making more daycare spaces available for women who chose to work. I sure didn’t see the RCMP roaming around making sure that women went to work and put their kids in state run daycares.
Giving parents $100 a month for childcare, whether or not they use daycare, is a fantastic idea. It is about time the state recognize the contribution of mothers who stay at home to raise their children. But if there are no spaces for parents to put their children in quality daycare facilities, then do they really have a choice?
And to say that the Liberals did not value children is crazy. Considering that they implemented the Canada Child Tax Benefit, the National Child Benefit Supplement for children being raised in low-income families, and extended EI benefits for parental leave to one year.
So, give me a break.
Heh.
Lyndon Simmons:
The government of Canada gave women the “choice” by creating more daycare spaces?!? More like hard working taxpayers. And because I have to pay for your government daycare space I can’t afford to stay home and care for my child. Why should SOME people get a free ride?
Only 1 out of every 8 children in Canada will get a space under the Liberal plan. Can you imagine the outcry if that ratio applied to health care!?
Pathetic. I’m sick of paying other people’s bills.
Lyndon, sweetie - name me one Liberal created daycare space.
