In what sense could any mildly informed person think Nelly McClung was "conservative"?? This is revisionist history at its most ridiculous...

Perhaps if we're going to write about another person's understanding of women in politics, we could also spell "Nellie McClung" correctly.

http://timelinks.merlin.mb.ca/referenc/db0003.htm

I know many young women who look up to Ms. Campbell as a symbol. It is possible for a woman to be Prime Minister of Canada. It is not necessary to argue that she was Prime Minister for a long time, or that she was historically significant. She was the Prime Minister.

I never posted to this rag; did you have my permission to use a quote made on another site without my consent? I do believe I will have to see if you have violated any rights afforded to me ,and if you have overstepped you boundaries in your zealous and misguided attempt to denigrate a woman you know nothing about.

Actually, it's LiveCamNetwork.com. The URL is http://www.livecamnetwork.com. You can find lots of pictures of her there. Apperently they're quite upset with her since she was paid for photoshoots and then told them they could not use the pictures. Oh well. No wonder she has so many psudonyms.

Phylis Syd, Miss Polonia 2002, DEJA? For someone so young, that's a lot of names, titles and pseudonyms. Who can keep track?

I wonder if she is using the university's (McGill) broadband while on duty at livecam.

Phylis, gimmie a break.

The cheeky ad was just one of a number of gaffes. It proved to be a nail in the coffin to a ship which was already leaking pretty badly. It wasn't just due to Kim's (correct) declaration that the country would take until about 1997 to recover. Things like her inability to hold her own in the (French) debates can't be pinned on John Tory.

Face it. Someone drove them to those ads.

You can turn this into a battle of the sexes or some kind of female empowerment argument if you want, but it just shows you're dodging the issue. Don't pretend that this is about female potential or anything of the sort. I think we'd be mocking you even more severely if you had compared yourself to John Turner. Especially after his "I touch the children" thing.

I don't think you should be trying to excuse the fact that Kim Campbell was simply not a good leader. And it's not as though there's any kind of shortage of kickass female politicians (Margaret Thatcher, anyone?). It's that you chose to idolize the John Turner of them all.

I never did support the woman’s policies, but she did have a penchant for brutal honesty??even if her own leadership suffered under boulder of her straight talk, you have to respect one who’d rather sink with honesty than rise up on lies. Her character will always leave a mark on the Canadian political canvas??and I respect her for her guts and determination. As for the failure that became the Tories’ fate, let’s not forget the debacle caused by the stupid campaign ad put forth by Tory spin doctors, without Campbell’s knowledge and/consent, mocking Chretien’s physical defect. That made little guy Jean into little baby Jesus in the public’s eyes. Even idiot Manning never slipped up this bad in offensive campaigning. Campbell was never the sore loser and she’ll always have my deepest respect for that.

Kimmy never lacked in substance, her party did??turning her own tag phrase against her, is a poorly delivered cheap shot, but regarding “charisma you are perfectly right, we do share that charming trait??and in response to Rempel, men do find this “bimbo’s smarts irresistible. To have wits and tits and to claim all rights for both is to live up to one’s fullest God-given potential: a girl can’t be just high-heels and thong panties, it’s best to be all and have an ego that refuses to apologize for either. Maybe you can push for legislation to criminalize sexxxxy bimbo smartssss??when the tory glory gets a majority in the House, though I think hell will freeze over long before that happens. Cheers,
Cheekily Yours,
“Bimbo Syd, Phylis

"We should not forget, however, that Kim Campbell was pretty handed a sinking ship." I'm not actually sure about that.

Take a look at the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_federal_election%2C_1993">poll numbers</a>, and - if you want anecdotal evidence, talk to someone like Damian Penny, who has a <a href="http://www.damianpenny.com/archived/004840.html">pretty concise debunking</a> for you.

Sorry, Lyndon. Too many erroneous generalisations.

GST and FT mistakes? Lest we are accused of perpetuating a myth, the assertion requires evidence. Even Libs have come to accept that both policies were/are good things.

Sinking ship? When Campbell called the election she was riding high in the polls. The debacle during the election and the ensuing humiliation was not Mulroney's doing.

I don't think that there was ONE Canadian public when it came to Mulroney. The Bloc pulled its way, Reform went another, and Ontario just went Lib. All for different reasons. The one group among these three almost solely motivated by GST and FT would have been Ontario --and that's excusable. Nationally, they have not been on the right side of things since 1984.

We should not forget, however, that Kim Campbell was pretty handed a sinking ship. The Canadian public punished the Progressive Conservatives for the mistakes of Brian Mulroney, like Free Trade and the GST.

In fact, one could argue that Mulroney left politics with his tale between his legs so that he didn't have to face the largest single defeat of a government in Canadian history.

A good premier, indeed.

Syd Phylis, with a respectable pseudonym like that, has claimed representation for McGill and for Alberta. That in itself is quite the claim since no authority has been granted to her for that or any other purpose. To claim representation in that manner over taking her clothes off (tastefully!) in front of a camera requires an ego the size of the Alberta surplus.

No one understood better than Kim Campbell that "Charisma without substance is a dangerous thing!" Syd has chosen her idol well.

"I tend to think she would have been a good premier."

Just like Rita Johnston was a "good premier" in the last days of the Socreds?

Heh. Even if she had taken over after Vander Zalm had kicked off, the resurrection of the BC Liberal Party ensured a split vote (and therefore, Mike Harcourt's lovely reign of error).

Kim would've been fucked there, too.

I love that you're not cutting this bimbo any slack. She's probably used to having men fall all over themselves to tell her how smart she is.

Most people don't know that Kim Campbell was also a a Socred member of the B.C. Legislature before she was recruited by Mulroney as a star B.C. candidate. If she had hung around, she would have been in a good position to have become leader and premier when Bill vander Zalm left. I tend to think she would have been a good premier.

<!--%kramer-pre%-->path. Correct me if I’m wrong but our country’s most historically significant female political leader was in fact a Tory, an interim PM and no stranger to posing in her birthday suit (albeit tastefully shielded). “Shamelessly” Yours, Phylis. From this site. <!--%kramer-post%-->
