In Praise of Ezra

February 20, 2006 · By George Freeman

If any of you have checked out the Bourque news page today, he links to a great piece on the heroics of Ezra Levant in Canadian civil society.

Canadian Muslims and the mainstream Canadian media might view Ezra Levant as a Leviathan. A crooked serpent with a heart of stone bent on wanton destruction. The proverbial bull running amok in the china shop. A creature so vile that he cannot be gazed upon without irreversible psychological damage for having been offended. I choose to view him as a Levantihan. A creature willing to shake things up when others remain silent or too timid to speak. A creature willing to stand up for freedom as others try to restrict it. A creature who comes to shine a light on those who would bring us into darkness.

Canada needs more Ezra Levants. The civilized world needs more Levantithans.

The piece also raises the important question, still taken too unseriously, of why it is that so much of the Islamic world finds civil society such an anathema, reacting in violent rampages for offences to their religion–which we’re simultaneously told is a peaceful religion.

In the face of that, Ezra “the Stockaholic” Levant remains a pre-eminent man of civilisation!

I’m having fun watching other media figures trying to deal with Levant right now, especially McNally’s “we don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings” line.

I read somewhere that the Western Standard is now getting picked up by smallish Ontario bookstores, where the curious are requesting the magazine. I think he’s come out of this looking good.

Yeah, Levant has always put on a good show, bold and witty.

No I hadn’t seen that article, although it is very interesting how many journalist percieve that cowering to radical Islamists on this one actually empowers such nuts.

    ATTN: #1,2,3….

You estimate the “heroism” and up the ante with categorizing him in league with “leviathons”? Hardly, at base — an opportunist possibly with stock in Halliburton or Bechtel? Maybe so, maybe not.

In addition, the democratic collective conscience has decided against publishing what can only be described as an inflammatory, hate-mongering CARTOON. Responsible journalism? Not even close.

Not even teenage Star Trek nerds spend the amount of time you adult men have spent in the cartoon world. The proud history of Conservatism in this country has always largely encompassed valid goal-setting, the building of productive enterprises, etc, All past accomplishments continuing to be negated by widespread failures in business ethics as applied to practices of same devolving down to the baseness of the mere thrills (curiosity raising) of CARTOONS?

And all in view of the gathering storm. The political/economic realignments now taking place at unprecedented speed. UAE port deal is a done deal simply because of the astronomical investment portfolio UAE holds in U.S. economy. Last reliably sourced reported figure a couple of years ago was UAE owns 7% of entire American economy. If they withdrew their investments, it would mean the collapse of entire American economy. What would that mean? America reduced to ‘third world status’.
    Same follows for Canada.

The ground shook (earthquate, 4.7) under parliament hill and beyond Friday, Feb.24th. I don’t view it as a co-incidence at all. Put that together with the present conditions existing in the southeastern United States. To date Canada as a geo-political entity remains almost exclusively the one region on the planet unaffected. What do you think the odds are of this continuing into the future?

The above mentioned “publisher of AN CARTOON” is simply and nothing more than an opportunist who achieved fifteen minutes in the spotlight. There is no legend making material here. And “timidity” has nothing to do with the issue. All governments and especially Canadians with our former “peacekeeping” status respected worldwide since PM Pearson, condemn unequivocally ANY AND ALL VIOLENCE, but at the same time SHOULD ADDRESS THE UNDERLYING CAUSES OF SAME VIOLENCE. The “religion as the excuse” IS THE PROPAGANDA SHAM.

In your “chest-pounding” praise of this brave individual here’s my suggestion, all three of you go to the front lines in Afghanistan, do some factual reporting in the real world. Or double in for the soldiers, then come back to this forum and report about heroics and bravery. Then you will be qualified to speak on the issue of bravery, not before.

Is this the calibre of men we have in this country? Star trek nerds, diddling cartoonists? There was another time…but it can be again with a little thought. I believe.

The war’s going forward. The ONE PERCENT (Adam Smith’s “hidden hand”) is stoking it and you cartoon lovers have no idea what will meet you at the end of this road. I hardly have an idea of it myself.

To be forewarned is to be forearmed. Enjoy your margueritas.

Regards and please, My God, may everyone sit up and take stock. Beyond the stock portfolios which will be worth the price of a roll of toilet paper. Review John Stewart Mills, Keynes, John Kenneth Gailbraith came pretty close. Please forward to your economics dept. colleagues.

FROM THE HOLY, IMMORTAL, ALL POWERFUL ONE of Israel, Ishmael (the moslems) and we the Christians are going to receive, I believe, the SINGULAR BLESSING of being reduced to ‘Third World Status’ — prevailing wisdom holds that it produces men of worth. I fully believe that.

I’m an Roman Catholic Irish Canadian

His brother, my uncle opened up first businessmen’s club on James Street, Montreal. These were responsible, honest to a fault, role models for our present family. Canada’s in trouble people, the collective conscience has to react NOW or it will be too late if it isn’t already. You have the option to prepare your individual consciences’ however.

N.B. New avenues for the internet democratic forum to seriously explore

    1. Effectiveness/ineffectiveness of the MPs on behalf of their constituents

    2. Eradicating child poverty

    3. Eradicating child pornography — focus on IP providers
and ability to allow streaming of same who’s at the top of this? Men of worth, get them.

    4. Financial accountability of the 12 individuals named in Gomery’s report being ordered to “replace” missing funds. That money alone could feed every hungry child in Canada til age of consent. Explore connections to organized crime. It’s there. We need Elliot Ness resurrected. And that’s an understatement.

    CARTOONS BEGONE …..

Got something to say?
