MSM Admits Defeat - Blogosphere is Where the Real News is Found
February 15, 2006 · By H. Cameron
A rather curious thing has occurred during the debate on whether newspapers and other media outlets should reproduce the Muhammad cartoons. If you read between the lines, and closely examine what many of the heads of these media outlets are saying, you’ll see they’re clearly conceding defeat to the blogosphere and the Internet. What kind of defeat? Well, take a look at what Colleen Boschmann, General Manager of McNally Robinson Booksellers had to say,
In fact, since the cartoons have been widely (exhaustively) discussed, and are available to the curious on the internet, it is the McNally’s position that carrying this particular magazine would not be ‘expressing’ anything except the symbolic (and in this case offensive) right to express whatever we want.
In a nutshell, the McNally’s stand is: yes to freedom of expression, no to freedom of gratuitous provocation. (emphasis mine)
Do you see admission of defeat? So basically, the cartoons are “available to the curious on the internet” therefore, we’re not going to upset a few Muslims and risk any sort of violence. Apparently Colleen doesn’t mind conceding the fact that the Internet is the place to get the “real” news and McNally Robinson Booksellers is simply going to bow out of this fight for freedom of expression. But as Kate points out, this bowing out is a tad bit hypocritical. Satanic Verses goes for $23 on their website.
What do you think of their cultural and religious sensitivities now?

This blog is proof that the blogosphere is not where ther real news is found. Blogs are simply where edcuated people go to inform Conservatives of what their mistakes are, and why Conservativism as an ideology is losing ground in Canada.
And for those of you who attempt to refute this - the vote as a percentage of the total for “Right-leaning” parties is less every election in Canada - this time around it simply wasn’t split in half like it historically has been.
“edcuated”?
Nice try - but pointing out something as silly as a spelling mistake on a blog that does not include a spell checker is missing the point. What a lame approach at discourse on your part.
Oh, I usually don’t bother with spelling flames.
But when composing a post boasting of my superior intelligence, etc., I usually take care to make sure all my ducks are lined up and quacking the same tune.
Otherwise, it’s called “leading with your chin.”
Congrats! Sounds like you know all about leading with your chin. You sound like the type of guy that goes off on tangents during a debate because you know the real issue is a wee bit too difficult for you to follow.
No, a bit too boring to follow.
Let’s recapitulate the debate:
1. Holden makes an interesting, if arguable point.
2. Jason C addresses the issue by calling conservatives morons.
3. I present a tactful rebuttal.
4. Frank Wiley, Defender of the Dyslexic, wades into the fray.
5. gnotalex flees the field in confusion and disarray and panic, oh my!
6. Or something like that.
Executive Summary:
Jason C makes a spelling mistake
Seeing nothing wrong with the arguement itself, gnotalex excitedly points it out
Frank Wiley sees that as being rather lame and calls gnotalex on it
gnotalex sadly attempts to spin the story
Jason C offers his executive summary, letting it slip that he’s a sanctimonius loser, vindicating gnotalex as a truth teller.
georgie once again with the useless quotes and the personal attacks. Is this all that you can do? Attack the messanger when you don’t agree with them. What a sad life you live.
what about AH’s Mein Kampf..what is that if not offensive??????
Laziness, Thy Name is Dawg
This week’s OTA round-up is being presented (for the most part) in bare list form. Efficient? You betcha. Entertaining? Not so much.
