Liberal opposition to same-sex marriage
February 2, 2006 · By Peter Rempel
Stupidus has good news for opponents of same-sex marriage in Canada relating to Liberal MPs who voted against the Liberal government’s SSM legislation:
Of these 32 MPs, 2 didn’t run in this election. Of the ones that ran, 25 won reelection and 5 lost (all losses were to Conservatives).
25/30 = 83% of so-cons Liberal incumbents were reelected.

Will Bill Graham feel strongly enough about this issue to invoke party discipline?
I think they will, and justify it by the framing the vote as one which will take rights away. They might just drive a few of these members into the CPC caucus by doing so, too.
Do you think it is fair to “unmarry” those who have already legally done so?
Actually, I do think that would be fair. But that isn’t relevant. This is about ending the practice of “marrying” people who aren’t married.
If you want your province to recognize gays who have taken advantage of the law while it existed, write your MLA. All the more so if you don’t. The only incident of marriage over which the federal government has any say is the right to a divorce, and there’s no reason to take that away. I mean, we don’t want gays pretending to be married, so let’s help them if they want to quit.
